The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) protects public health and the environment by
supplying clean drinking water, collecting and treating wastewater, and reducing air, noise, and
hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility
in the country, with nearly 5,500 employees. DEP delivers more than 1.1 billion gallons per day of
the highest quality drinking water to 8.3 million NYC residents and more than 1 million people in
Upstate New York and has a wastewater conveyance and treatment system capable of processing over
1.3 billion gallons of wastewater per day to protect the environment and the city's surrounding
waterways.
The Bureau of Environmental Compliance's mission is the enforcement of environmental laws and
regulations, which affect the health and safety of the public and environment. Specifically, the
bureau enforces the City's Asbestos regulations as well as the Air and Noise Codes. The Bureau is
comprised of the Division of Air & Noise Policy, Permitting and Enforcement and the Asbestos
Control Program. These divisions respond to; air and noise code complaints; inspect and track
asbestos removal projects; and foster the goals of environmental protection.
Air permitting engineer will work on projects including air permitting, assessments, and compliance
and perform technical duties in support of the New York City Air Pollution Control Program.

- Conduct engineering analyses and draft preliminary reports on innovative technologies submitted
- Review applications for registering and operating combustion and industrial process equipment.
- Perform on-site inspections of combustion and industrial sources, utilizing testing instruments
- Create technical reports on field inspections and other regulatory or technical matters.
- Inspect premises and construction sites to verify compliance with permits, plans, and
