The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.

ACS’ Division of Child and Family Well-being (CFWB) works to ensure critical supports to families and children and is rooted in the belief that all New Yorkers should have health resources, and educational, cultural, and social opportunities that support their capacity to thrive. Through the Office of Community Engagement and Partnerships (OCEP), CFWB invests in and collaborates with eleven funded Community Partnerships. The Partnership model is coalition-based and grounded in community building, community organizing, and social equity principles. These coalition structures create space for residents, organizations, and ACS to connect, share information, and design and implement well-being strategies informed by community priorities. CFWB is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Community Engagement & Partnerships Undergraduate Intern to join our OCEP team.

As a Community Engagement & Partnerships Undergraduate Intern, you will work with our team to develop and deliver communications strategies to inform staff about community engagement. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to connect, share information, and design and implement well-being strategies informed by community priorities. Additionally, as a member of the 2026, ACS Summer Internship Program cohort, you will participate in an enrichment program designed to fully engage students into the ACS and NYC government experience. Internship programming includes professional development workshops, lunch and learns, speaker events, NYC government tours, and networking opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with OCEP team to conceptualize and orchestrate communications strategies to inform staff about upcoming community engagement initiatives
  • Develop/design communications materials (e.g., PowerPoint, flyers, one pagers, etc.) via Canva or other software programs
  • Contribute as a thought partner in staff meetings to provide a student lens into OCEP work
  • Identify areas of research, and conduct research (primarily online) on noted research questions
  • Attend community program site visits, meetings, and events
  • Support event and training development, and help team with planning and design of meetings, events and trainings
  • Share communications materials, and provide on-the-ground support on event and training days to ensure seamless execution

Minimum Qualifications

As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).

NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.

Preferred Skills

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Sociology, Psychology, Liberal Arts, English, Economics, and Political Science - Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) - Must be highly collaborative with excellent problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail - Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Canva - Interest in community development/building, youth public systems, city government, community affairs, community outreach, economic and social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion, racial justice, LGBTQAI rights, marketing, fundraising, and relationship management

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
