We are hiring a dependable, patient, and warm caregiver (Direct Support Professional / Community Habilitation Worker) to support an 11-year-old girl with autism who thrives with one-on-one attention in calm, structured settings. This is a meaningful role focused on building independence, supporting daily routines, and helping her participate in the community.
The ideal candidate will have experience in childcare, special education, disability supports, or other human-services fields -- and who enjoys nurturing skills, creating positive routines, and providing gentle guidance.
This is a one-on-one position starting at $25/hr, up to $30/hour after a successful trial period.
Responsibilities
* Provide compassionate, consistent 1:1 support
* Assist with daily living activities, including hygiene prompts, dressing guidance, and organization
* Support learning routines -- reading practice, memory skills, and basic academics
* Model and teach safety skills (stranger awareness, crossing streets, emergency response)
* Encourage healthy routines: nutrition, exercise, rest, and personal care
* Help her engage in hobbies such as art activities, music, dance, and crafts
* Support social skills and community participation through outings and activities
* Provide supervision at all times -- she cannot be left unsupervised or in a vehicle unattended
* Assist with transportation to activities, worship, and community programs (mileage reimbursed)
* Maintain simple documentation of activities and progress
Requirements
* Associate’s Degree or relevant professional certification required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
* Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation
* Experience supporting children or individuals with developmental disabilities
* Ability to provide patient, step-by-step prompting
* Comfort with assisting in personal care and hygiene
* Ability to follow dietary safety guidelines
* Reliability, emotional patience, and strong boundaries
* Willingness to complete required OPWDD documentation and trainings
