**Veterinary Assistant Job Description Overview** The veterinary assistant is essential to the entire team's success, providing crucial support across all departments to ensure exceptional care for clients and patients. **Key Responsibilities:** - Assist with patient care and treatment. - Monitor hospitalized pets and aid in post-surgery care. - Maintain inventory and restock supplies as needed. - Restrain animals during blood draws and nail trims. - Support routine diagnostic tests (e.g., taking radiographs, running blood work, reading fecal samples). - Maintain and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment. - Clean and disinfect cages, kennels, and exam and treatment areas in the hospital. - Administer medications under the supervision of a Veterinarian or Veterinary Technician. - Feed and bathe animals. - Answer phone calls and provide excellent customer service. - Assist clients with their pets' needs. **Qualifications:** - Must be 18 years old or older. - Ability to be a self-starter, multitask, and work effectively as part of a team. - A genuine enjoyment of working with animals, including those that may be stressed, ill, or in pain. - Preference for candidates with 1 years of experience, although it is not required. - Capability to meet the physical demands of the job, which includes lifting, carrying, and restraining animals (assistance will be available for lifting animals over 40 lbs; must be able to lift 40 lbs independently). - Ability to walk or stand for extended periods and frequently work in a bent or squatting position. - Experience with teamwork and the ability to collaborate well with all levels of hospital staff.
