What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Field Application Engineer position at Nuvoton Technology Corporation America?
About the Role
We are seeking a talented Senior Field Application Engineer with a strong hardware engineering background to join our team in the Michigan area. In this role, you will serve as a critical technical bridge between Nuvoton and its customers — providing expert support across our full product portfolio, including microcontrollers (MCUs), audio, digital interface, battery management and AI applications, while helping customers achieve successful design integration and deployment
Responsibilities
- Customer Technical Support: Provide expert guidance to customers during product selection as well as during the process of designing Nuvoton products. This would include providing implementation guidance, schematic design review, PCB layout, hardware debugging, and reference system development for Industrial, Consumer, Automotive, IoT, and AI applications.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with sales teams, customers, and internal engineering groups to troubleshoot complex technical issues, conduct product demonstrations, deliver training sessions, and lead design reviews to secure design wins.
- End-to-End Project Support: Support customer projects from initial concept through production — addressing electrical engineering challenges such as power management, signal integrity, and real-time OS integration on Nuvoton platforms.
Required Qualifications
- Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required; master’s degree is a plus. Minimum 7 years of hands-on embedded hardware/software development experience, including MCU platforms (ARM Cortex-M preferred) and industry-standard IDEs such as Keil or IAR.
- Hardware Design Proficiency: Minimum 5 years of hardware design experience, including demonstrated expertise in schematic capture, PCB layout (Altium, Cadence, etc.), and hands-on debugging with tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
- Prior experience: with one or more of the following MCU ecosystems: STMicroelectronics, Microchip, NXP, Texas Instruments, or Renesas is required to quickly ramp up on Nuvoton platforms.
- Analog, Digital IC, Power proficiency: Strong foundation in analog IC’s such as OpAmps, ADC, DAC, and Digital IC’s such as RTC’s, Bridge and Switches and Power DC-DC conversion circuits and board level power management.
- Embedded Systems Depth: Strong command of peripheral interfaces (GPIO, SPI, I2C, I3C, ADC/DAC), RTOS frameworks (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr), and serial communication protocols.
- MCU & AI Architecture: Deep knowledge of MCU based embedded systems design, familiarity with Nuvoton products (e.g., Audio ICs, BMIC, MCUs) or comparable ARM-based MCUs is highly preferred. Understanding of AI hardware acceleration is a plus.
- Communication & Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and customer-facing interactions; ability to engage effectively with audiences ranging from hardware engineers to higher level management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with embedded Linux toolchains (e.g., Yocto) and related build environments for resource-constrained or application-processor-class targets.
- Familiarity with Nuvoton product families across performance tiers — from entry-level MCUs (e.g., Cortex-M0, M23) to mid-range (Cortex-M4) and high-performance platforms (M55M1, Cortex-A35-based MA35D series) or comparable ARM-based platforms.
- Working knowledge of power electronics fundamentals, including DC-DC converter design and motor control (e.g., BLDC, PMSM) particularly in embedded or industrial contexts.
- Previous experience developing or supporting Edge AI applications, including on-device inference, neural network model deployment (e.g., TensorFlow Lite, ONNX), and hardware AI accelerator integration.
