DEFINITION:
Under general supervision of the site administrator, assists in improving student skills and carrying out the educational programs in the classroom and other job related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The Instructional Aide (IA)-Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classification is under the supervision of the school principal, and is placed based on the needs of the students at that site. Instructional Aide (IA)-TK may coordinate and work with other staff including, but not limited to: General education teachers and other Instructional Aides to support teaching and learning with students placed in Transitional Kindergarten (TK). EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

- Works with students individually or in small groups with reading and other learning experiences planned by the teacher, enhances children’s phonics, sight and sound words and numbers, assist with teaching basic punctuation, poems and rhymes;
- works with the teacher in planning learning schedules and developing materials to be used in the classroom;
- assists teacher in maintaining a satisfactory room environment by maintaining students records and logs, keeping materials and equipment organized, helping the arrangement of bulletin boards and learning and interest centers;
- assists in the evaluation of pupil progress by noting and documenting such progress and informing the teacher of observations
- assists the teacher in identifying pupil needs, and cooperates with other staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems; works with identified Title 1 students;
- performs tasks as needed to meet demands of core duties consistent with a TK classroom;
- assists in supervision of students during classroom activities, on campus/play fields, nutrition times, library, and field trips;
- assists in the arrival and dismissal of students;
- verbally provides prompts to guide and support students on changing their pull up;
- may need to provide support/help with students to zipper and button clothes;
- will walk students to Health Office and assist the child in toileting/changing as needed. A second employee shall be present.
- performs other job related duties as required.
Knowledge of:
- correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation;

- Successful work with children in an educational/recreational setting;
- MUST submit verification of completion of the twelfth grade through diploma, high school transcripts or GED certificate at the time of hire;
- MUST meet one of the following requirements:
- Submit verification of an AA/S degree or above; OR
- Submit verification of completion of a minimum of (48) semester units of higher education (official transcripts required); OR
- Successfully pass the district Instructional Aide test.
