Position Summary:
The Diet Technician works under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian to assist in planning and implementing nutrition services for residents. This role is crucial in ensuring that residents’ dietary needs are met in accordance with their medical conditions, preferences, and treatment plans. The Diet Technician will be responsible for assessing nutritional needs, providing education, and ensuring that residents receive appropriate meals tailored to their needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in conducting nutrition assessments for residents, including collecting data related to food preferences, medical history, and dietary restrictions.
- Help develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the Registered Dietitian and interdisciplinary care team.
- Monitor residents' nutritional status and make necessary adjustments to their dietary plans as directed.
- Prepare and update residents' menus according to therapeutic diets, allergies, and food preferences.
- Educate residents and their families on dietary guidelines and the importance of nutrition in their care.
- Ensure accurate documentation of dietary recommendations and changes in residents' records.
- Support the food service department by ensuring that meals meet the nutritional standards and are prepared in accordance with the dietary requirements of each resident.
- Assist in monitoring food inventory and ensuring proper storage and handling of food.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the nutritional care provided to residents.
Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Dietetics, Food Service Management, or related field preferred.
- Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) credential preferred, or eligibility to sit for the DTR exam.
- Previous experience in a skilled nursing facility, hospital, or other healthcare setting is a plus.
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets, nutritional needs, and food safety standards.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
