Responsibilities
The Payroll Specialist must exhibit certain characteristics and perform specific duties during their daily or weekly routine. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Process and manage payroll on a regular schedule, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Maintain and update payroll records including wages, deductions, and benefits
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
- Calculate taxes, garnishments, and other withholdings
- Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies
- Prepare payroll reports for management and accounting
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, taxes, and deductions in a professional and prompt manner
- Collaborate with HR and Finance teams, and HRIS systems, regarding employee data changes
- Assist with audits and year-end processes (W-2s)
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2 years of payroll processing experience
- Knowledge of payroll laws and regulations
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and payroll processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and various payroll software systems
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with payroll laws and tax regulations
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
