Overview
We are seeking a Cost Estimator to prepare comprehensive, end‑to‑end cost analyses and proposals for complex heavy civil projects—including earthwork, drainage systems, bridges, utilities, and roadway construction. Reporting directly to the Chief Estimator, you will take ownership of bid preparation, coordinate subcontractor and vendor pricing, utilize industry‑leading tools such as HCSS HeavyBid and AGTEK, and contribute to developing competitive proposals that secure new work.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of full estimating packages, including detailed quantity takeoffs, unit pricing, cost breakdowns, and written proposal narratives.
- Review and interpret drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents to define scope and calculate quantities.
- Solicit, evaluate, and compare bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring coverage across all trades and mitigating potential risks.
- Collaborate with the Estimating team to establish bid strategies, highlight risk factors, determine contingencies, and propose alternatives.
- Build and validate cost models using HCSS HeavyBid and AGTEK, ensuring consistency and accuracy in deliverables.
- Participate in site visits, pre‑bid meetings, and constructability reviews, documenting observations that may influence pricing or scheduling.
- Uphold estimating standards and enforce QA/QC procedures throughout the process.
- Maintain and analyze historical cost data to improve forecasting and enhance future accuracy.
- Prepare bid schedules, cost summaries, and presentation materials for internal stakeholders and leadership review.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent practical experience.
- Prior estimating experience within the heavy civil construction industry.
