Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist – Environmental Waste
Position Summary:
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for managing, monitoring, and improving the company’s environmental waste programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position will develop and implement policies and procedures that minimize environmental impact, maintain workplace safety, and ensure proper waste handling, storage, transportation, and disposal practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee hazardous and non-hazardous waste management programs, including waste collection, segregation, labeling, storage, shipment, and disposal.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including EPA, RCRA, DOT, OSHA, and state environmental requirements.
- Maintain and update manifests, profiles, records, and permits for waste streams.
- Conduct inspections of waste storage areas to ensure proper containment, labeling, and housekeeping practices.
- Provide training to employees on proper waste handling, spill response, and EHS best practices.
- Develop and implement waste reduction, recycling, and sustainability initiatives.
- Act as primary contact with waste vendors, regulatory agencies, and auditors.
- Investigate incidents or non-compliance issues and recommend corrective/preventive actions.
- Support overall EHS programs including air, water, stormwater, chemical safety, and emergency response as needed.
- Prepare and submit required environmental reports and documentation in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2–5 years of experience in environmental waste management, EHS, or related field.
- Working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations, including RCRA, EPA, DOT, OSHA, TCEQ, NFPA, and TAC.
- Working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations (RCRA, EPA, DOT, OSHA).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for managing documentation and compliance.
- Effective communication skills for training and coordinating with employees and contractors.
- HAZWOPER, DOT, or RCRA certification preferred.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
