About the Opportunity The College of Social Sciences and Humanities and its ten tenure units are the home of the Experiential Liberal Arts. The College of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Bouvé College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University seek to fill an open-rank faculty position at the tenure-track Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor level in the area of Ethics and Health, broadly construed to include research ethics, clinical ethics and/or public health ethics. The tenure home will be in the Department of Philosophy and Religion with a joint appointment in the Bouvé College of Health Sciences. This is a full time, benefits-eligible position with an expected start date of August 17, 2026. Responsibilities: The person filling this position will teach foundational courses in healthcare and/or public health ethics, advanced courses in their area of expertise, and contribute to joint curriculum and research initiatives between the two colleges. Their research will be on topics that have relevance to the design and use of novel technologies, including but not limited to AI and big data analytics, synthetic biology, robotics, and neurotechnologies. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Philosophy, Science and Technology Studies, Bioethics or a related field in hand by the employment start date is required. The successful candidate will have a strong scholarly record or research program on ethical issues related to healthcare and/or public health, a demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, and be prepared to work with global student populations. Candidates seeking appointment at the Associate level should already hold a position at the rank of Associate or have a comparable level of experience. Candidates seeking appointment at the Full Professor level should already hold a position at the rank of Professor or have a comparable level of experience. The research statement should address the research topics/questions you have worked on in the past, key findings you have discovered, key products (or outputs) of these efforts, funding you have received, as well as research plans for the future. Please also highlight cross-disciplinary research efforts you have undertaken, research done with students or community partners, and/or public facing scholarship. The teaching statement should summarize your past instructional and mentorship experiences, your pedagogical philosophy, and what you would like to teach at Northeastern.
