Position Summary

The Pre-Processing Lead is responsible for supporting and coordination daily activities within the Pre-Processing Department while actively participating in regular pre-processing operations. Working closely with warehouse supervisors, this individual will help execute daily operational plans, coordinate workflow priorities, provide employee training, maintain a clean and organized work environment, and ensure that all departmental activities are performed safely and efficiently.

The ideal candidate is an experienced warehouse professional who leads by example, takes initiative, communicates effectively, and continuously identifies opportunities to improve departmental operations.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Operations and Workflow

• Work closely with warehouse supervisors to review daily operational plans, priorities, workloads, and departmental objectives
• Coordinate daily pre-processing activities and communicate work assignments and priorities to team members.
• Perform regular pre-processing duties, including material identification, sorting, preparation, handling, and processing
• Monitor daily workflow to ensure tasks are completed accurately, efficiently, and within established timelines.
• Identify operational challenges, workflow delays, and resource requirements, and communicate them to supervisor.
• Provide feedback and recommendations to supervisor regarding daily operations, productivity, and departmental improvements
• Support the implementation of approved operational changes and process improvements.

Team Support

• Coordinate and provide hands-on training to new and existing employees within the Pre-processing Department. Ensure employees understand departmental procedures, work instructions, equipment requirements, and applicable safety protocols.
• Provide ongoing coaching, guidance, and constructive feedback to support employee development and work quality.
• Assist supervisors with onboarding and integrating new employees into daily departmental operations.
• Lead by example by demonstrating professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and safe working practices.

Equipment Operation and Material Handling

• Operate forklifts and other authorized material-handling equipment.
• Ensure appropriate lifting equipment, tools, and resources are available for scheduled work
• Monitor the safe use of forklifts, pallet jacks, hoists, lifting devices, and other material-handling equipment used within the department
• Ensure employees use equipment only when properly trained, evaluated, and authorized, as applicable.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment utilization, material-handling processes, and overall operational efficiency.
• Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained, stored, and used in accordance with company procedures

Workplace Safety

• Monitor departmental activities to ensure employees follow company safety policies, established operating procedures, and applicable workplace safety requirements.
• Reinforce the proper PPE, safe lifting practices, and equipment operating procedures.
• Identify unsafe working conditions, equipment deficiencies, and unsafe employee practices, and take appropriate action within the Lead's authority.
• Support departmental safety inspections, corrective actions, and the implementation of approved safety improvements.
• Promote a proactive safety culture by encouraging employees to identify and report potential hazards.

Workplace Organization and Continuous Improvement

• Ensure the Pre-Processing Department remains clean, organized, properly arranged, and ready for daily operations.
• Maintain organized workstations, designated material storage areas, equipment locations, and processing zones.
• Ensure material are properly identified, labelled, sorted, and stored according to company procedures.
• Support the implementation of approved improvements and maintain established workplace organization standards.
• Encourage employees to maintain clean, safe, and efficient work areas throughout their shifts.

Required Qualification

• Previous experience in warehouse operations, industrial material handling, pre-processing, or a related industrial environment.
• Experience operating forklifts and other material-handling equipment.
• Strong understanding of workplace safety practices, equipment handling, and warehouse operating procedures.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to coordinate daily priorities.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to train, coach, and support team members effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate effectively with supervisors and other departments.
• Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5 years of forklift operating experience.
• Previous experience in a Team Lead, Senior Warehouse Associate, or similar role.
• Experience handling, identifying, sorting, or processing industrial machinery, equipment, and materials
• Familiarity with industrial lifting equipment, warehouse safety inspections, and preventive maintenance practices.

Physical and Work Environment Requirments

• Ability to work in an active industrial warehouse environment.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform material-0handling activities throughout the shift.
• Ability to lift and move materials within established safe lifting limits, using mechanical assistance or team lifting when required.
• Ability to work around forklifts, industrial machinery, lifting equipment, and other warehouse operations.
