About the Role
NowThis is seeking an experienced Freelance Development Producer to join our Studio team in Los Angeles. This role is responsible for developing original unscripted series, branded content, and premium digital programming from concept through greenlight and into production.
The ideal candidate is a creative storyteller with exceptional editorial instincts, strong pitching abilities, and experience collaborating across creative, production, editorial, and commercial teams. You'll identify compelling stories, develop scalable content formats, create persuasive pitch materials, and help shape projects that align with both audience interests and business objectives.
What You'll Do
- Develop and refine original content concepts, formats, and series for digital, social, and streaming platforms from ideation through production readiness.
- Research emerging trends, talent, and stories to identify new programming opportunities.
- Create compelling pitch decks, treatments, creative briefs, and presentation materials for internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Collaborate with executives, producers, editorial teams, and Brand Partnerships to develop commercially viable programming.
- Participate in creative brainstorming sessions and contribute innovative ideas that reflect the NowThis voice.
- Conduct story research, pre-interviews, and editorial development for potential projects.
- Package projects by identifying hosts, talent, experts, production partners, and creative collaborators.
- Lead proof-of-concept productions to test, refine, and validate new content formats.
- Oversee the editorial process for development projects, providing creative feedback and ensuring deliverables align with the overall vision.
- Produce original episodes from pre-production through delivery, managing shoots, schedules, talent, budgets, and production logistics.
- Partner closely with editors throughout post-production to shape story, pacing, tone, and overall creative quality.
- Establish repeatable production workflows and creative best practices as successful concepts move toward series production.
- Work cross-functionally with Production, Editorial, Social, and Audience Development teams to optimize content for platform performance and audience engagement.
- Support project handoffs into production by maintaining creative continuity, documentation, and production materials.
- Track development pipelines, timelines, priorities, and project status across multiple initiatives.
- Stay informed on trends across social media, streaming, documentary, and unscripted television.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience developing unscripted, documentary, digital, or premium streaming content.
- Proven experience developing original programming from concept through pitch and production.
- Excellent writing, storytelling, and presentation skills.
- Strong understanding of digital audiences and social-first content strategies.
- Experience creating pitch decks, creative presentations, and development materials.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across departments.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, Keynote, PowerPoint, and project management tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing branded content and working closely with commercial or brand partnership teams.
- Experience producing sizzle reels or proof-of-concept content.
- Existing relationships with production companies, talent, agencies, or industry partners.
- Strong knowledge of trends across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and streaming platforms.
Compensation
Compensation for this freelance position ranges from $1,500–$1,750 per week. An employee's position within this range will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to: relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, travel requirements, revenue-based metrics, any contractual agreements, and business or organizational needs.
