Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Full-Time Nurse Practitioner specializing in Palliative Care to join our dynamic team for Kansas and Missouri locations (KCMO and Clintonarea). This role offers an opportunity to provide expert symptom management and holistic support to patients with serious illnesses. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, a compassionate approach, and experience working within diverse healthcare settings. You will play a vital role in enhancing quality of life for our patients through comprehensive care coordination and symptom control.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments to develop individualized palliative care plans that address physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
- Manage complex symptom control including pain management, dyspnea, nausea, and other distressing symptoms using evidence-based practices.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, social workers, and spiritual care providers to ensure holistic patient support.
- Administer medications such as Botulinum toxin treatments when appropriate and oversee medication management in accordance with best practices and legal regulations.
- Provide education to patients and families regarding disease progression, treatment options, and advance care planning.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or eClinicalWorks while maintaining compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical research projects, and staff training sessions to promote best practices in palliative medicine.
Skills
- Proven experience with Epic or other EHR systems; familiarity with Athenahealth is advantageous.
- Strong background in hospice & palliative medicine with knowledge of symptom management techniques including acute pain control and IV infusion therapy.
- Experience working within hospice settings or long-term care facilities such as assisted living or nursing homes.
- Skilled in performing physical examinations, medical documentation, medication administration, and patient assessment.
- Knowledge of critical care environments including ICU or Level I Trauma Center experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in medical procedures such as suturing, catheterization, spinal taps, and sterile processing techniques.
- Familiarity with CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-10), and Workers' Compensation law for accurate billing and compliance purposes.
- Ability to work effectively across multiple healthcare settings including outpatient clinics, inpatient units, home care, or telehealth platforms.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate patients on complex health topics like nutrition, disease management, or advanced directives.
- Strong understanding of physiology, anatomy knowledge, infection control protocols, and emergency response procedures such as basic life support (BLS) and airway management.
