About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Automation Technician to support highly automated material handling operations involving Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems (ASRS) and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs). This hands-on role focuses on maintaining high equipment uptime through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, system support, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have strong industrial automation experience with ASRS, AMRs/AGVs, PLC troubleshooting, and material handling equipment in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor daily operation of ASRS and AMR systems to ensure safe and efficient material flow
- Respond to system alarms, equipment faults, and production stoppages to minimize downtime
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on ASRS cranes, shuttles, conveyors, lifts, and AMRs
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and control system issues
- Diagnose and repair PLC-controlled equipment (Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens)
- Troubleshoot motors, drives, sensors, RFID devices, barcode scanners, and industrial communication networks
- Support installation, commissioning, and startup of automation systems
- Assist with WMS/WCS integration and resolve interface issues
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to improve system reliability
- Maintain maintenance records, PM documentation, and SOPs
- Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, IT, and external vendors to resolve technical issues
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or Technical Certification in Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3–7 years of industrial automation or maintenance experience
- Hands-on experience supporting:
- ASRS systems
- AMRs or AGVs
- Conveyors, cranes, shuttles, and lifts
- Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment (Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens)
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems (24VDC, 480VAC)
- Experience with industrial sensors, actuators, motors, and control systems
- Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
