Role summary:
This person will report directly to the Commissioning and Qualification Engineering Manager and is responsible for executing and supporting the commissioning, qualification, startup, and troubleshooting of industrial processing systems. This role involves ensuring equipment and systems function correctly, coordinating with engineering and operations teams, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. In the role of Commissioning and Qualification (C&Q) Engineer, you will be joining a world-class Engineering team that is delivering innovative solutions to tough problems.
This position is fully onsite and will work from our Riverside office location in Chattanooga, TN. Currently, the working hours for this role are day shift from Monday to Friday. Please note that as our company evolves, working arrangements, locations, and hours may change to meet business needs.
Responsibilities include:
• Oversee the commissioning, startup, and initial operation of new or modified processing systems, ensuring compliance with design specifications and safety standards
• Develop and execute commissioning plans, procedures, and checklists, coordinating with other engineering disciplines, operations, and maintenance teams
• Troubleshoot system and equipment issues during commissioning, working with vendors and internal teams to implement solutions
• Oversee qualification activities, including Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Qualification (PQ) for processing systems, as required
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, environmental, and safety standards during commissioning activities
• Provide training and handover documentation to operations and maintenance personnel upon project completion
• Other duties as assigned
You are:
• An experienced industry professional with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
• A skilled engineer with 3-5 years of experience in commissioning and qualification (C&Q), startup, or maintenance of industrial processing systems in a complex industry, such as paper, petroleum, or chemical manufacturing
• Knowledgeable of process equipment, instrumentation, and control systems, with the ability to interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and engineering drawings
• Experienced with commissioning and qualification (C&Q) protocols, including validation testing and documentation for regulated industries
• A hands-on troubleshooter with experience on mechanical and electrical systems in an industrial setting
• An excellent communicator with coordination skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
• Someone who can prioritize workstreams and competing demands
• A highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative
• Well organized and invested in the details
• Able to build positive relationships at all levels of the organization
• Resourceful when it comes to solving problems
• Proficient in Microsoft 365
• Willing to work extended hours as needed during commissioning phases
Extra awesome if you also have:
• P.E., MBA, or other higher level career achievements
• Previous experience in high-hazard industries (e.g. oil & gas, chemicals, or power generation)
• Strong technical writing skills for creating commissioning reports and procedures
• Hands-on experience with PLC/DCS programming or troubleshooting
• Carbon, battery, or graphite manufacturing experience
