Purchasing Agent

Position Summary

The Purchasing Agent is responsible for the procurement of raw materials, goods, and services in accordance with company policies and procedures. The position is responsible for maintaining reliable and cost-effective sources of supply, supporting production requirements, managing supplier performance, and applying Lean Manufacturing and Kanban principles to purchasing and inventory management.

Responsibilities

· Manage the purchasing process for raw materials, supplies, goods, and services required to support company operations and production.

· Purchase and source raw materials from suppliers throughout North America and Europe, ensuring continuity of supply, competitive pricing, appropriate lead times, and compliance with company and customer requirements.

· Develop and maintain relationships with domestic and international suppliers and identify alternative sources of supply to reduce risk and improve supply-chain resiliency.

· Negotiate pricing, lead times, payment terms, minimum order quantities, freight considerations, and other commercial terms with suppliers.

· Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to purchasing and material-management activities to reduce waste, excess inventory, shortages, unnecessary handling, and process inefficiencies.

Education & Work Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in a related field highly preferred.

· Five or more years of purchasing/procurement experience required.

· Experience purchasing raw materials in a manufacturing environment preferred.

· Experience working with domestic and international suppliers preferred.

· Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Kanban, inventory-control, and continuous-improvement principles preferred.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven negotiation skills.

· Excellent interpersonal, supplier-management, and customer-service skills.

· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Thorough understanding of purchasing procedures and policies.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
