Key Responsibilities
- Operate CNC Swiss-style lathes independently during swing shift to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous production
- Perform complete machine setups, including tooling selection, offsets, program verification, and first article approval
- Make in-process adjustments to tooling, offsets, feeds, and speeds to maintain part quality and dimensional accuracy
- Take full ownership of product quality during shift, including inspection, documentation, and adherence to specifications and control plans
- Troubleshoot machining issues such as tool wear, machine alarms, surface finish concerns, and dimensional variation
- Collaborate with day shift teams to ensure smooth production handoffs, including communication of machine status, job progress, and open issues
- Follow standard work instructions, engineering drawings, and setup sheets while optimizing process stability and cycle times
- Perform routine machine checks and preventive maintenance activities to minimize downtime
- Maintain accurate production, quality, and downtime records
- Escalate quality, safety, or equipment concerns to prevent defects and ensure operational continuity
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe machining environment
- Grind, sharpen, and recondition carbide and high-speed steel cutting tools to specification
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in one or more of the following:
- CNC Swiss, lathe, or mill machining
- FANUC CNC controls
- Machining small, high-precision turned parts
- Troubleshooting machining and quality issues
- Carbide tool grinding and resharpening
- Advanced metrology techniques
- CNC programming
- Interpreting engineering drawings, including GD&T
- Ability to work independently and maintain high attention to detail in a precision-focused environment
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Specialized training, certification, or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience in machining or a related field
