Residential Program Manager/ Associate Professional (AP)
The Residential Program Manager is an Associate Professional (AP) responsible for supporting the daily operations and therapeutic environment of the residential program under the supervision of the Clinical Program Supervisor/Qualified Professional (QP).
This position provides direct care, supervision, and therapeutic support to male youth ages 13–17 with behavioral, emotional, and mental health needs within a Level III residential treatment setting. The Residential Program Manager serves as the primary day-to-day operational leader within the home and assists in maintaining a safe, structured, supportive, and therapeutically appropriate environment for residents and staff.
This role requires strong leadership skills, professionalism, emotional intelligence, flexibility, and the ability to effectively manage the residential milieu while building positive relationships with youth and maintaining appropriate boundaries. The Residential Program Manager plays a critical role in promoting consistency, reinforcing program expectations, supporting staff development, and fostering positive youth engagement and emotional growth within the home.
Primary Responsibilities
Residential Operations & House Management
- Assist in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the residential facility.
- Maintain a safe, structured, clean, and therapeutic living environment for residents.
- Ensure daily schedules, routines, programming, transportation, meals, medication administration processes, and resident supervision are carried out appropriately.
- Monitor the overall functioning of the residential milieu and address operational concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist with shift coordination and communicate staffing or scheduling concerns to leadership.
- Provide direct operational support during staff shortages, emergencies, or crises as needed.
- Ensure program expectations, house structure, and behavioral support strategies are implemented consistently across shifts.
Staff Support & Supervision
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to Direct Support Staff and Residential Counselors during assigned shifts.
- Monitor staff performance, professionalism, interactions with residents, and adherence to program expectations.
- Assist with training reinforcement, staff coaching, and modeling appropriate therapeutic interactions.
- Communicate concerns regarding staff performance, incidents, or operational issues to supervisory leadership.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, consistency, and positive communication among staff members.
Resident Care & Therapeutic Support
- Support residents in daily living activities, emotional regulation, social skill development, conflict resolution, and healthy relationship-building.
- Assist with implementation of individualized service plans, behavioral interventions, and therapeutic programming.
- Provide appropriate supervision and support during recreational, educational, and community-based activities.
- Assist residents in developing coping skills, problem-solving abilities, responsibility, and independent living skills.
- Utilize trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques, and positive behavior support strategies when responding to resident needs or behavioral concerns.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and model emotional regulation, respect, and ethical behavior.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete required shift notes, incident reports, transportation logs, medication documentation, and other assigned documentation accurately and within required timeframes.
- Report incidents, safety concerns, behavioral concerns, and program issues to supervisory leadership promptly.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with agency policies, Medicaid standards, and North Carolina licensing regulations.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, supervision sessions, and quality improvement activities as assigned.
Additional Requirements
- Experience working with adolescents with behavioral, emotional, mental health, or trauma-related needs preferred.
- Experience in residential treatment, juvenile services, behavioral health, education, child welfare, or related settings preferred.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques, and positive behavior support preferred.
- Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to work effectively in high-stress and crisis situations.
- Ability to maintain professionalism, consistency, and appropriate boundaries.
- Culturally responsive and able to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License and ability to pass a background check.
Educational Requirements
Must meet North Carolina Associate Professional (AP) qualification requirements through a qualifying combination of education and experience.
- Holds a bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university; OR
- Holds a bachelor’s degree in a non-human services field and has at least two years of full-time post-bachelor’s degree accumulated supervised mental health, developmental disabilities, or substance abuse experience with the adolescent population; OR
- Holds an associate degree in a human services field and has at least two years of full-time post-degree accumulated supervised experience in mental health, developmental disabilities, or substance abuse services with the adolescent population.
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
