Salary: $60,000-$63,000

Type of Position: 10-month Faculty Contract position

Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) invites applications for a 10-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Special Education. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the preparation of future special educators through teaching, scholarship, and service within a collaborative and mission-driven School of Education.

Position Overview

The Assistant/Associate Professor will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in special education and contribute to program development, student success, and accreditation efforts. The role includes responsibilities in teaching, scholarship, advising, and service to the university and broader community.

Responsibilities

Teaching & Instruction

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in special education (e.g., methods, assessment, legal foundations).
  • Develop and revise curriculum grounded in current research, inclusive pedagogy, and best practices.
  • Supervise student research, internships, and field experiences.
  • Maintain regular office hours and provide academic advising.
  • Assist with edTPA preparation and student support.
  • Serve as chair or reader on doctoral committees.

Scholarship & Professional Development

  • Conduct and disseminate scholarly research in special education through publications, presentations, and/or grant activity.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to remain current in policy, practice, and research.
  • Contribute to the intellectual life of the School of Education through collaboration and innovation.

Program Support

  • Collaborate with faculty to support curriculum development and continuous improvement aligned with state (MSDE) and national (CEC, CAEP) standards.
  • Contribute to accreditation efforts, including data collection and reporting as needed.
  • Participate in program assessment and evaluation activities.

Student Support & Recruitment

  • Advise students on program pathways, licensure requirements, and career opportunities.
  • Partner with admissions and advising staff to support student recruitment and retention.
  • Promote a culture of equity, inclusion, and academic excellence.

University & Community Engagement

  • Serve on departmental, school, and university committees.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with local schools and districts to support field placements and collaborative initiatives.
  • Engage in service activities that support the mission of the university and the profession.

Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Special Education or a closely related field.
  • Evidence of successful teaching at the university level (undergraduate and/or graduate).
  • Demonstrated record of scholarship or potential for scholarly productivity.
  • Knowledge of state certification/licensure processes and national standards (CEC, CAEP).
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, research, and service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising field experiences or mentoring teacher candidates.
  • Familiarity with accreditation processes and program assessment.
  • Experience collaborating with schools, districts, or agencies serving students with disabilities.
  • Experience teaching and/or developing early childhood education coursework and/or literacy-based coursework. 


Salary : $60,000 - $63,000
