PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Vice President of Commercial Credit is responsible for the success of the Credit Union’s Commercial Underwriting Team. The position manages the daily workflow of Commercial Credit Analysts, coordinates with Commercial Loan Officers on loan requests, trains staff, ensures in-depth analysis and appropriate underwriting of complex transactions, reviews risk rating accuracy, commercial credit policy development and compliance, and has approval authority of commercial credit requests.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Directly supervises commercial credit analysts. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training partners; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining partners; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This position will require the knowledge to effectively process commercial loan applications, establishes and maintains internal controls, maintains security controls, controls loan quality, and analyzes loan products to attain the lending goals and objectives of the Credit Union. A professional appearance and attitude as well as the ability to communicate, coach, counsel, and motivate the staff to accomplish goals is necessary.

- Reviews commercial loans procedures on a routine basis; recommends any necessary updates or revisions.
- Oversees commercial lending process, ensuring that loan packages are properly filed with appropriate signatures, disclosures, credit authority, and supporting documentation.
- Reviews loan packages that include long-term credit provisions to ensure that adequate safeguards are included.
- Prepares commercial lending reports to submit to management.
- Participates in special projects and assignments and performs other duties as assigned.
- Monitors upcoming loan maturities, files reviews, construction projects, and financial statement gathering.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- An individual must have a Bachelor’s degree.
- An MBA or professional designation preferred.
- Have a minimum of ten (10) years of banking experience in commercial lending.
- Lending and sales experience a plus.
- Prior management experience a plus.
- Understand general accounting principles and concepts.
- Spreading and analyzing historical, budget and projected financials.
- Identifying borrower credit, industry and market risks.
- Identifying and analyzing sources of repayment and collateral.
- Preparing sensitivity analysis and financial covenant models.
- Monitoring and verifying customer borrowing base reports.
- Reviewing standard loan documentation components.
- Strong and effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Strong analytic and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
