What are the responsibilities and job description for the Graduate IT Systems Intern position at NOTA Fitness & Wellness?
NOTA Fitness & Wellness is a growing wellness company helping organizations build healthier, more connected workplaces and communities. As we grow, we're investing in the technology and systems that make our work more efficient, scalable, and impactful.
We're looking for a graduate-level technology student who wants hands-on experience solving real business problems, not just observing from the sidelines.
About the RoleThe Graduate IT Systems Intern will help NOTA evaluate, improve, automate, and build the systems behind our growing business. You'll work on real operational and technology challenges, using programming, automation, APIs, data, and systems thinking to make NOTA's work more efficient and scalable.
You may be given a problem, an initial workflow idea, or an inefficient process and asked to take ownership of the solution. You'll research potential approaches, evaluate available technologies, make recommendations, build and test solutions, and document the final process.
You'll have meaningful autonomy while working closely with NOTA leadership to ensure solutions are secure, practical, and aligned with the organization's goals.
What You'll DoBuild & Automate: Develop automations and workflows using Google Apps Script, Google Workspace, APIs, spreadsheets, and other appropriate technologies.
Code & Develop: Write, test, troubleshoot, and maintain code supporting NOTA's internal systems and backend processes.
Improve Systems: Evaluate existing processes, trackers, and workflows and identify ways to make them more efficient, accurate, and scalable.
Research & Recommend: Research technology solutions, evaluate options based on functionality, cost, security, and scalability, and present recommendations to leadership before implementation.
Integrate Systems: Work with APIs and third-party platforms to connect systems and automate data movement.
Analyze Data: Use data and system analysis to identify inefficiencies, support decision-making, and improve reporting.
Manage Projects: Take ownership of assigned technology projects from research through implementation and follow-through.
Document: Create clear technical documentation for systems, automations, integrations, and processes.
Protect Data: Follow secure development practices and NOTA policies when working with confidential employee, client, and company information.
Currently enrolled in a master's degree program or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Experience with at least one programming or scripting language.
Familiarity with APIs and system integrations.
Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently, manage projects, and take ownership of outcomes.
Strong attention to detail and ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical team members.
Understanding of confidentiality and responsible handling of sensitive information.
Experience with Google Workspace, Google Sheets, and Google Apps Script.
Experience working with APIs, automation tools, databases, SQL, or cloud-based systems.
Familiarity with cybersecurity and secure development practices.
Experience evaluating, implementing, or improving business technology solutions.
See an inefficient process and immediately start thinking about how to improve it.
Enjoy figuring out problems you haven't encountered before.
Can research a solution instead of waiting to be given the answer.
Like turning an idea into something that actually works.
Think about security, usability, and scalability, not just whether something works.
Know when to work independently and when to bring a question or recommendation to leadership.
Want to build technology that is used by a growing organization.
You don't need to know every technology NOTA uses. We want someone who is technically capable, curious, resourceful, and eager to learn.
What You'll GainYou'll gain hands-on experience in:
Business Process Automation | Technology Implementation | Backend Development | API Integrations | Systems Analysis | Process Improvement | Data & Reporting | Technical Project Management
You'll work directly with NOTA leadership and have the opportunity to take projects from problem → research → recommendation → build → implementation.
