Applications are being accepted for middle school and high school Social Studies Teacher positions for the 2026-2027 school year. This for a full-time 10 month position.
Position Summary
Under the direction of the school principal, classroom teachers ensure the success of every student by designing and delivering high-quality learning experiences that support their intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth. Teachers are responsible for managing the classroom environment, supervising students in various settings, and monitoring outcomes to drive continuous improvement. Aligned with the Somerset County Public Schools mission, the role focuses on modeling and fostering independent thinking, creative problem-solving, and abstract reasoning while tailoring instructional materials to meet the unique needs of a diverse student body.
Core Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership & Innovation

Curriculum Alignment: Implement subject-area instruction following Maryland Learner Outcomes, Core Learning Goals, and the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future standards.

Cognitive Development: Infuse Dimensions of Learning into daily lessons, specifically targeting creative problem-solving and divergent thinking.

Instructional Design: Develop and modify lesson plans that utilize varied teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of all learners, including IEP/504 and ELL requirements.

Tech Integration: Utilize educational technology (Interactive Boards, Learning Management Systems, and Design Software) as an integral tool for engagement and assessment.
Assessment & Student Growth

Diagnostic Teaching: Regularly assess student needs to set Student Learning Objectives and prescribe targeted instructional interventions.

Data-Driven Reporting: Maintain accurate, digital records of progress and communicate objectively with parents and students regarding academic and social growth.
Classroom Culture & Safety

Inclusive Environment: Foster a classroom culture that reflects multiple perspectives, multi-cultural awareness, and mutual respect.

Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience

Degree: Bachelor’s Degree (B.A./B.S.) in an applicable field of education from an accredited institution.

Certification: Must meet or be eligible for Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) certification.

Blueprint Readiness: Familiarity with the Maryland Career Ladder and current state professional standards is preferred.
Technical & Professional Skills

Communication: Exceptional oral/written skills for interacting with diverse stakeholders (parents, central office, community).

Mathematical Proficiency: Ability to interpret data trends, calculate proportions/percentages, and apply basic algebraic concepts for student data analysis.

Software Literacy: Proficiency in Google Workspace/Microsoft Office, Project Management software, and Internet-based instructional tools.

Hardware: Prior experience with Promethean or Smart Boards is highly preferred.
Physical Demands & Work Environment

Stamina: Regularly required to stand, walk, and engage with students; must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
