Essential Functions
- Assist in the implementation of Norwalk Board of Education administrative policies, rules, regulations, and directives.
- Follow Norwalk school policy to ensure student safety.
- Promote a positive office atmosphere to welcome and assist visitors.
- Respond to questions and requests promptly and appropriately.
- Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
- Compose routine letters, memoranda, and promotion awards for immediate supervisors.
- Assist with whole school, department, and/or District Mailings.
- Operate and maintain office equipment.
- Scan correspondence and related materials.
- Access student information and/or deliver services in accordance with guidelines for transfer, storage, research of student records, and submitting transcripts.
- Ensure accuracy of student records.
- Perform data entry to the District student management system (PowerSchool).
- Facilitate the intern and substitute check-in process.
- Facilitate coverage for teacher absences.
- Facilitate the student's early dismissal and sign-out process.
- Record student absences and tardies, and produce a daily attendance report.
- Report cards, printing, and distributing to counselors.
- Honor roll certification.
- Update emergency contacts in PowerSchool
- Suspension letters
- Assign and maintain a list of student lockers.
- Maintain manual files, documents and records.
- Organize and maintain office files.
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information.
- Organize and maintain student achievement and testing data.
- Provide support to the Assistant Principal.
- Interact in a positive manner with all staff, students, and visitors.
- Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, and conversation.
- Maintain a level of approachability by administration, staff, parents, and visitors.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
- High School diploma or equivalency
- Two years (2) of experience above the clerk level in office support or secretarial work.
- College training of 15 semester hours, equaling 0.5 year of experience in the secretarial sciences, may be substituted for two years of experience above the clerk level.
- May require fluency in Spanish.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of designee finds appropriate.
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to listen attentively.
- Ability to perform assigned tasks effectively.
- Considerable knowledge of office systems and procedures.
- Basic knowledge of business math.
- Ability to take notes.
- Ability to operate office suite software and student information system software.
- Ability to schedule and prioritize workflow.
- Organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Repetitive hand motion, e.g., typing or writing
- Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, read, hear, see, speak, reach, stretch with hand and arms, crouch, kneel and stoop.
- Handle interruptions of duties by staff, students, visitors, the intercom, and the telephone.
- Occasionally lift, carry, push, and/or pull various supplies and/or equipment up to a maximum of ten (10) pounds.
