Position Summary:

The Store at the Norton is an integral part of the Museum experience and shares a supportive role in interpreting, representing, and conveying the Norton Museum of Art’s strategic objectives. Through store sales, it serves to generate profits to bolster the institution’s educational objectives, while enhancing the overall quality of the Museum visitor’s experience by highlighting merchandise relative to the Museum’s collections and exhibitions. The Museum Store Ambassador, under the supervision of the Assistant Store Manager, serves as a key contributor in achieving the store’s goals by assisting in vital areas of daily functions, including handling sales and POS operations. The Museum Store Ambassador provides our museum visitors with the highest level of service, ensuring that their experience is positive and memorable.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Present a welcoming and inclusive environment for all customers, maintaining professional engagement.
• Demonstrate in depth product knowledge and generate sales
• Operate POS system with proficiency.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the varying levels of museum memberships and suggestively sell at POS.
• Maintain a pristine store environment, ensuring displays are inviting, and the merchandise is stocked & replenished as needed.
• Remain updated on daily Museum happenings such as tours, programming, and exhibitions.
• Understand Museum policies and proactively assist visitors and staff members as needed.
• Work collaboratively with fellow staff members and receive direction from Assistant Store Manager on various operational tasks.
• Assist with the store’s annual inventory.
• Must be available to work weekends, specifically Sundays and Friday evenings during Art After Dark.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Highly professional. Positive mindset and high integrity
• Service- oriented. Thrives on meaningful customer engagement.
• Previous specialty retail and/or sales-related experience.
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced, collaborative, team-oriented environment.
• Values and supports the strategic goals, mission, and initiatives of the Museum.
• Communicate in an effective manner. Bilingual a plus.
• A degree of flexibility with one’s work schedule is required.

Physical Requirements: 

• The person in this position must be able to stand throughout the entirety of their shift and be able to bend, stretch, and move around the sales floor & stockroom areas without difficulty.
• Must have the ability to lift, move or carry up to (20) pounds

Hours and Compensation:

• Variable schedule; Days, Nights, Weekends
• Part-Time, Non-Exempt
• Compensation: Commensurate with experience

Location Requirements:

At the time of employment, employees are expected to be located within reasonable commuting distance of the museum. Commuting Distance means they are located in South Florida, and able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
