Psychology Adjunct Faculty

The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Department of Psychology is seeking qualified applicants to join its pool of adjunct faculty members. The department is particularly interested in applicants who are available to teach in-person courses, although online, hybrid, and other distance-delivery opportunities may be available periodically based on departmental needs.

Adjunct faculty may teach undergraduate or graduate courses and will provide high-quality learning experiences that support the educational mission of Northwestern Oklahoma State University and the Department of Psychology. Adjunct faculty work collaboratively with the department chair and full-time psychology faculty and are expected to follow all University and departmental policies, procedures, academic standards, and course requirements.

Appointments are made on a course-by-course basis according to departmental need, applicant qualifications, enrollment, and available funding. Inclusion in the adjunct faculty pool does not guarantee a teaching assignment.

Duties and Responsibilities: Psychology adjunct faculty members serve as instructors of record for assigned courses. Responsibilities may include:

Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate psychology courses in the assigned instructional format.

Holding in-person classes at the times and locations scheduled by the University.

Planning lessons and developing appropriate instructional activities, assignments, assessments, and course materials.

Maintaining the approved course learning outcomes and departmental requirements for assigned courses.

Using the University’s learning management system to provide course materials, communicate with students, post grades, and maintain accurate student records.

Evaluating student performance and providing substantive, timely feedback.

Maintaining regular and substantive interaction with students.

Responding promptly and professionally to student and departmental communications.

Maintaining required office or student-support availability.

Administering course evaluations and other required assessments.

Submitting grades, attendance information, assessment data, and other required documentation by established deadlines.

Collaborating with the department chair and full-time faculty regarding course content, student learning outcomes, assessment, accreditation, and program requirements.

Complying with University policies related to academic integrity, accessibility, confidentiality, instructional quality, and student support.

Academic Programs and Areas of Interest: The Department of Psychology seeks applicants whose academic preparation, professional experience, teaching experience, or licensure aligns with one or more of its undergraduate and graduate programs, including:

Bachelor of Science in Psychology

Psychology minor

Exercise and Sport Psychology minor

Substance Abuse minor

Trauma-Informed Psychology minor and certificate programs

Industrial/Organizational Psychology undergraduate and graduate certificate programs

Master of Counseling Psychology, including:

Licensed Professional Counselor pathway

Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor/Mental Health pathway

LPC and LADC/MH dual pathway

Non-licensure pathway

Master of Science in General Psychology

Graduate certificate programs offered through the Department of Psychology

Minimum qualifications include:

An earned master’s degree or higher in psychology, counseling, clinical mental health counseling, counselor education, exercise and sport psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, substance abuse counseling, or another discipline directly related to the assigned course.

Applicants whose graduate degree is in a related field must have a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline or content area relevant to the proposed teaching assignment.

Academic preparation, professional experience, and demonstrated subject-matter expertise appropriate to the assigned undergraduate or graduate course.

Applicants seeking consideration for graduate counseling courses must hold an active professional license in good standing that is relevant to the assigned course. Appropriate licenses may include LPC, LADC or LADC/MH, LMFT, LCSW, licensed psychologist, or another applicable behavioral health credential.

Applicants assigned to practicum, internship, supervision, assessment, substance abuse counseling, or other clinically focused courses must meet all applicable University, program, accreditation, and professional licensure requirements.

Ability to teach in person when required by the assigned course schedule.

Ability to use instructional technology and the University’s learning management system effectively.

Strong written, oral, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred qalifications include:

An earned doctorate or terminal degree in psychology, counseling, counselor education, or a closely related field.

Previous college or university teaching experience.

Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses.

Experience teaching in more than one instructional format or modality.

Current or previous professional experience directly related to the assigned teaching area.

Oklahoma licensure or eligibility for Oklahoma licensure when relevant to the teaching assignment.

Approved supervisory status when relevant to practicum, internship, or clinical supervision responsibilities.

Experience with professional accreditation, program assessment, student learning outcomes, or licensure-aligned curricula.

Experience working with diverse student populations, including first-generation, adult, rural, and graduate students.
