What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Advocate position at Northwest Tennessee Head Start/EHS?
Purpose Statement: The Family Advocate serves as the initial contact for the families of children we serve to inform, educate, and support them in understanding child development, advocating for their children, establishing and achieving family goals, and developing leadership skills as their child’s first teacher.
Responsibilities:
1. Recruit children to ensure that full enrollment is achieved and maintained throughout the program year which includes 10% disabilities mandate.
2. Ensure that children/pregnant women receive required health services follow-up prior to last day of school.
3. Review and file children’s physical examinations and immunizations before they enter the program.
4. Ensure each child receives the required health screenings within 45 days of entering the center.
5. Obtain parental consent forms prior to date of screenings and share screening results with parents.
6. Ensure that children with suspected disabilities are evaluated, diagnosed and appropriate follow-up services are provided.
7. Make an initial home visit to each family before a child enters the center developing a Family Service Plan at the initial home visit.
8. Assess family goals and outcomes throughout the year while providing emergency and crisis assistance to families as needed.
9. Assist with organizing the parent committee and attend monthly meetings.
10. Provide or arrange for training that meets the individual needs of parents including the Parenting Curriculum.
11. Monitor child attendance and provide family support to reduce absenteeism and tardiness.
12. Establish and maintain children/pregnant women and family folders and files according to record keeping procedures.
13. Enter child and family service data in ChildPlus to track child and family services through ChildPlusreports.
14. Attend and participate in inter-agency and community agency meetings.
15. Identify available child and family resources and assist with compiling a Community Resource list.
16. Attend workshops and required training.
17. Act as an advocate for parents with agencies and school system.
18. Conduct and document first and monthly Team Meetings and enter information into ChildPlus.
19. Preserve the confidentiality and integrity of all program information.
20. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
21. Attendance is an essential function of your day-to-day responsibility and commitment to the program.

Pay: $17.09 - $19.35 per hour
