Position: Fleet Mechanic
Job Description:
A FedEx Fleet Mechanic (Vehicle Maintenance Technician or Diesel Mechanic) is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing the company's fleet of delivery vehicles to ensure they operate safely and reliably.
Summary:
Performs preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and electric fleet vehicles while ensuring compliance with company safety standards and government regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform preventive maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrication, and filter replacements.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic problems using diagnostic equipment.
Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, HVAC systems, and fuel systems.
Inspect vehicles to ensure compliance with federal, state, and DOT safety regulations.
Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
Perform welding and fabrication when necessary.
Respond to emergency roadside breakdowns as needed.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Operate shop equipment, lifts, and specialized tools safely.
Work with maintenance software to document repairs and schedule maintenance.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
Experience repairing medium- or heavy-duty trucks (typically 2–5 years preferred).
Knowledge of diesel and gasoline engine systems.
Ability to read wiring diagrams and repair manuals.
Valid driver's license (CDL may be preferred or required for some positions).
ASE certifications are preferred and may be required for advanced positions.
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in various weather conditions.
Preferred Skills:
Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
Knowledge of hydraulic and air brake systems.
Familiarity with computerized diagnostic tools.
Time management and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Commitment to workplace safety.
Typical Work Environment:
Fleet maintenance shop or FedEx dispatch facility
Full-time with possible evening, overnight, weekend, or holiday shifts or part time during evenings, overnights, weekends and possibly holidays.
Exposure to noise, grease, chemicals, and varying temperatures.
This role is well suited for technicians with diesel or automotive repair experience who enjoy diagnosing mechanical problems and keeping commercial vehicles operating safely and efficiently.
Pay: $65,000.00 per year
