Primary Purpose:
The Director of Instructional Technology provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for the integration of technology into teaching and learning across the district. This position leads the instructional technology department in developing and implementing innovative, future-ready learning environments that align with district priorities and technology goals.
The Director of Instructional Technology will:
- Collaborate with the Chief Technology Officer to develop and execute the district’s instructional technology vision and long-range strategic plan.
- Manage instructional technology budgets, ensuring responsible resource allocation and alignment with district instructional and technology priorities.
- Oversee compliance, planning, implementation, and evaluation of instructional technology programs, professional learning, and digital tools.
- Cultivate a culture of innovation, digital citizenship, and data-informed instruction that supports student engagement and achievement through the instructional technology team.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in Educational Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field required
- Valid Texas educator certification required
- Administrative or supervisory certification preferred
- Demonstrated experience in instructional technology leadership
- Comprehensive knowledge of emerging technologies, digital learning, and best practices in technology integration
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to manage budgets, personnel, and large-scale projects
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Leadership and Vision
- Lead the district’s vision for instructional technology to ensure it drives innovative, future-ready learning aligned with district goals and priorities.
- Collaborate with the Chief Technology Officer to plan and execute the instructional components of the district’s Long Range Technology Plan.
- Foster a culture of innovation that embraces artificial intelligence, blended learning, digital literacy, and responsible technology use to enhance student engagement and success.
- Partner with the Curriculum and Instruction department to ensure technology integration supports instructional frameworks and effective teaching practices.
- Promote the development of digital citizenship and equitable access to technology for all students and staff.
Budgeting, Fiscal Responsibility, and Evaluation
- Manage the instructional technology budget, ensuring responsible allocation of funds for digital tools, instructional software, and learning resources.
- Align financial decisions with district instructional priorities, technology infrastructure plans, and the overall Technology Services budget.
- Evaluate instructional software, platforms, and applications for instructional impact, data security, and cost-effectiveness.
- Develop processes for tracking expenditures, measuring ROI on technology investments, and reporting fiscal outcomes to the Chief Technology Officer.
Compliance
- Ensure all instructional technology tools and platforms comply with district policies, state and federal regulations, and data privacy standards.
- Collaborate with the Technology Services team for compliance with cybersecurity, accessibility, and student data privacy requirements.
- Oversee the implementation of digital citizenship programs that promote safe, ethical, and responsible technology use.
Management and Overseeing Team
- Supervise and evaluate the Coordinator of Instructional Technology and instructional technology team members.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and professional growth opportunities to ensure team members deliver high-quality support and innovation across campuses.
- Establish clear performance expectations, monitor progress, and foster a collaborative team culture focused on service, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Coordinate with the Curriculum and Instruction department, Technology Services engineers, and campus leaders to ensure cohesive implementation of instructional technology initiatives.
- Oversee professional development planning for instructional technologists, teachers, and administrators focused on technology integration and digital learning best practices.
- Facilitate communication and alignment between district departments to ensure technology supports teaching, learning, and operational excellence.
Other Duties
- Assist in planning district events such as professional development conferences, showcases, and digital learning initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Technology Officer.
