African descent for the enrichment of all.

produces exhibitions, public programs, educational experiences, and events that center
the Black experience by featuring visual arts, music, literature, and the history of

The Opportunity:
NAAM seeks to recruit an ambitious Manager to execute NAAM’s programmatic vision of
a highly inclusive and outward-facing institution that enhances the
understanding of African Americans' history, art, and culture. The Program
Manager is a key leadership team member who will manage a portfolio of public
programs that focus on community engagement, working alongside the President
& CEO to take the museum’s programming operations to the next level of
vitality. This new position is responsible for designing and implementing
world-class museum engagement opportunities for the local community, new
residents, and visitors to the northwest. An ideal candidate is a dynamic team
leader passionate about finding innovative ways to connect people to NAAM’s

Primary Responsibilities:
NAAM is a collaborative work environment where all employees participate in planning
and carrying out the organization’s mission and goals. Ideal qualifications include
a passion for NAAM’s mission with a strong understanding of and respect for the African
American history and culture. In addition, this position is specifically responsible for
the following:
• Develop and oversee innovative and engaging community programs to include all age
groups
• Work closely with the President & CEO and other department leaders to
collaborate on programmatic delivery
• Build and foster collaborative relationships with community partners and other
stakeholders to design public programs and build audiences
• Work collaboratively with the development and marketing team to support
fundraising reporting
• Manage the budget of the Program Department
• Collaborate with department leaders to create a roster of innovative programs
and learning opportunities
• Identify goals and indicators of success for programming events & activities
• Collaborate with President & CEO to track progress toward the strategic plan and
other organizational goals
• Be a collaborative leader and serve as a liaison to cultural organizations and
educational institutions locally, regionally, and nationally
• Manage program department interns and support staff as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
Ideal Qualifications:
• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study is required. Preferences for an
M.A. in history, arts, or museum studies
• A minimum of 3 years of program or project management experience with arts,
culture or events focus.
• Demonstrated experience in executing or collaborating to produce public programs
• Strong attention to detail
• Some experience with managing budgets
• Demonstrated understanding of American history
• Ability and desire to work with a wide array of people from diverse backgrounds
• Demonstrated ability to work in a cooperative and collaborative environment
• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• High emotional intelligence
This is a full-time, on-site position with a salary range of $70,000 to $90,000/year
