Purpose Statement:
Northstar Behavioral Health Intensive Residential Services IRTS is a team of professionals that specialize in co-occurring treatment through a multi-faceted programming structure for those battling mental health and substance use disorders.
Requirements:Key Result Areas:
- Maintain Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker labor hours to be 556 hours per pay period.
- Grocery Budget $600 per month.
- Staff turnover 1 per quarter.
- 3.5 OT hours per person per payroll.
- 100% completion of staff documentation.
- 100% completion of monthly trainings.
Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Essential Functions)
- Supervise residents to assure their health and safety; plus:
- Weekly 1:1 meetings with the Treatment Director/Treatment Supervisor.
- Weekly 1:1 meetings with the Program Director.
- Review time cards and approve time bi-weekly (Monday).
- Attend weekly IRTS Leadership meetings..
- Conduct monthly Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker meetings as a group, along with the Treatment Director.
- Follow the on-call procedure for site.
- Audit all daily checklists.
- Audit kitchen for Department of Health standards.
- Ensure Program Director and Treatment Director are involved in all Disciplinary Action meetings.
- Complete monthly rounding and keep on file.
- Email Program Director maintenance requests within 24 hours if non-emergency.
- Respond to emergency situations following established policies and procedures.
- Notify the Program Director about hiring needs.
- Train and develop new hires.
- Complete and assist Practitioners with intake/admission procedures, and orientation of new Recipients.
- Participate in Recipient recreational activities with a positive attitude.
- Administer Recipient medications and document accordingly.
- Use sound decision making skills, exhibiting good judgment and realistic understanding of issues.
- Objectively document Recipient-related topics in Recipient files and communication logs.
- Continuously seek out to improve by suggesting solution to operational struggles through soliciting input from co-workers including the treatment director and program director.
- Respond constructively to feedback with an open mind.
- Interact, communicate and collaborate with team members to support the mission of NBH IRTS.
- Participate in staff meetings.
- Plan work tasks to coincide with programming requirements.
- Set priorities in monitoring Recipients, completing rounds, documentation of pertinent information and completion of other assignments.
- Available, in a friendly, respectful, dignified manner to Recipients for questions and other assistance.
- Handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Is highly dependable and can be counted on to work independently, having the ability to work with little direction.
- Consult with the treatment director/mental health professional on any psychiatric emergency, and follow directions as given.
- Closely monitor activities throughout the facility.
- Conduct hourly room checks throughout the facility.
- Regularly conduct fire drills, severe weather drills.
Required Skills and Experience (Minimum requirements in terms of educational background, work experience,

- Meets the standards for Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker per DHS guidelines as listed below.
Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker Supervisor must meet the following 4 requirements:
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must successfully complete 30 hours of training during the two years prior to hiring in each of the following areas:
- Recipient rights
- Recipient-centered individual treatment planning
- Behavioral terminology
- Mental illness
- Co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse
- Psychotropic medications and side effects
- Functional assessment
- Local community resources
- Adult vulnerability
- Recipient confidentiality
Meets one of the qualifications in A. or B.
A. Have associate of arts degree in one of the behavioral sciences or is a registered nurse without a bachelor’s degree, or within the previous 10 years has :
- Three years personal life experience with serious and persistent mental illness.
- Three years personal life experience as primary caregiver to an adult with a serious mental illness or brain injury.
- 4000 hours supervised paid work experience in the delivery of mental health services to adults with a serious mental illness or brain injury.
B. Is fluent in non-English language or competent in culture of ethnic group to which at least 20 percent of rehab worker’s recipients belong, and
- receives monthly documented individual clinical supervision during the first 2000 hours employment.
- has 18 hours of documented field supervision by a mental health professional or practitioner during the first 160 hours of contact work with recipients and at least 6 hours of field supervision quarterly during the following year.
- has review and co-signature of charting of recipient contacts during field supervision by a mental health professional or practitioner, and
- has 15 hours of additional continuing education on mental health topics during the first year of employment and 15 hours during every additional year of employment.

- Availability and flexibility to work additional hours, as need dictates.
- Successfully complete a background study
- Must know and understand the implications of 245G, sections 245A.65, 626.557, and 626.5572, and Chapter 260E.
- Free of chemical use problems for at least two years immediately preceding hire date and sign a statement attesting to that fact
- Must have a valid Minnesota driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Proficient working knowledge of Google Suite and internet research
