What are the responsibilities and job description for the Receptionist position at Northstar Academy?
The receptionist is central to the efficient operation of the school and the ongoing service to our parents and students. The receptionist should greet students, visitors, faculty and staff with warmth and enthusiasm. The receptionist is responsible for answering all incoming telephone calls, directing all calls, and taking messages. In addition, the receptionist is responsible for safety and security by ensuring that all visitors, parents, and outside representatives are signed in and escorted when appropriate.

Northstar has been serving young people with a wide variety of learning differences since 1996—serving students in grades K-12 at the Academy and providing vocational training for young adults with disabilities ages 16-24 through the Northstar Career Center.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The receptionist must be creative, accountable, flexible, and take initiative. The role requires professionalism, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to deal with the fast pace of handling multiple responsibilities. Computer skills essential to the position including word processing, knowledge of Google Suite, and data management, etc. Strong candidates will have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Welcome all visitors in a professional and courteous manner and adhere to Northstar’s visitor sign-in identification policies
Answer all incoming general inquiries (in-person, calls and emails), direct them as necessary, and communicate information to internal parties
Manage daily student attendance reporting through schoolwide attendance software and distribute the Morning Report to all staff
Maintain accurate transportation information for students, including communication between families, students, and public school district representatives concerning student transportation needs
Assist with daily dismissal procedures
Provide administrative support for school events, meetings, and special projects
Maintain and organize the Front Desk and associated common areas
Accept delivery of mail/packages and
Make daily public address announcements as needed (general, security, weather, sports and dismissals)
Maintain professional integrity and confidentiality of all front desk communication/information
Hours: 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Mon. – Fri. (School Year)
8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Mon. – Thurs. (Summer)
Salary : $36,000 - $43,000
