Early Learning Assistant Director

Summary

The Assistant Director provides leadership, oversight, and day-to-day support for the Early Learning Center, partnering with the Director to ensure a safe, nurturing, Christ-centered environment where children can grow, learn, and thrive. This position supports the supervision and development of staff, maintains compliance with Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) licensing requirements, communicates with families, and helps ensure the effective operation of the program. The Assistant Director serves as a visible, relational leader who models professionalism, compassion, integrity, and a genuine love for children, families, and staff.

 

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Early Learning Director in the daily leadership and operation of the program
  • Provide leadership and support to teachers and classroom staff
  • Help ensure classrooms maintain a safe, nurturing, developmentally appropriate learning environment
  • Assist with staff scheduling, coverage, attendance, and daily classroom operations
  • Support the hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and evaluation of early learning staff
  • Build positive and professional relationships with children, families, and staff
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding program needs, concerns, and student development
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with all applicable DCYF licensing requirements, Washington Administrative Code, health and safety regulations, and organizational policies
  • Maintain accurate staff and child records and assist with required documentation.
  • Support the implementation of the center's curriculum philosophy and educational programming.
  • Help monitor classroom quality, staffing ratios, supervision, and appropriate child-care practices
  • Assist with incident reporting, emergency procedures, health and safety protocols, and required documentation
  • Support staff in creating responsive and engaging learning environments
  • Assist with family communication, enrollment needs, tours, events, and other program activities
  • Provide classroom support and substitute coverage when necessary, while maintaining appropriate leadership responsibilities
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and maintain required certifications and training
  • Model and promote the organization's mission, values, and Christian beliefs in interactions with children, families, and staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Early Learning Director

 

Qualifications

  • Born Again Christian walking faithfully with God, has a personal testimony, and lives a consecrated life devoted to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
  • Regularly attends a Christian church
  • At least 18 years of age
  • ECE State Certificate or an approved equivalent
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, or a related field
  • Two years of experience as a teacher of children in an early learning program or two years of experience in administration or management, or an approved alternative plan
  • Complete required DCYF preservice requirements and licensing orientation

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a licensed childcare or early learning center
  • Experience supervising, coaching, or developing early childhood educators
  • Strong knowledge of Washington State childcare licensing requirements
  • Experience with staff scheduling, enrollment, family communication, and program administration
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead with patience, professionalism, flexibility, and sound judgment
  • Commitment to providing high-quality, Christ-centered care and education

Salary : $70,000 - $80,000
