The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the administration, maintenance, security, and performance of all enterprise databases supporting casino gaming systems, racetrack systems, financial applications, and non-gaming business platforms. This position ensures high availability, data integrity, regulatory compliance, and proper access control in accordance with internal controls and gaming regulatory requirements. The DBA collaborates with IT, Operations, Finance, Compliance, and vendor partners to support mission-critical systems across a 24/7 gaming and racing environment.
- Administers and maintains enterprise databases for gaming systems, racetrack wagering systems, slot management, table games, cage applications, hotel/POS platforms, and business applications.
- Monitors database health, performance, storage capacity, uptime, and security, ensuring optimal speed and reliability across all properties.
- Designs, implements, and maintains backup, recovery, and disaster-recovery strategies in accordance with regulatory, security, and business-continuity requirements.
- Ensures compliance with state gaming regulations (e.g., OCCC), internal controls, audit standards, and data-handling requirements for gaming and racing systems.
- Performs database updates, tuning, patching, upgrades, schema changes, and data migrations while minimizing operational downtime.
- Creates and manages roles, permissions, access control, and security profiles to ensure only authorized access to regulated data.
- Works closely with IT Security to enforce cybersecurity standards, including encryption, auditing, logging, and vulnerability remediation.
- Troubleshoots database errors, application issues, and data integrity concerns in partnership with system owners and vendors.
- Develops and maintains documentation including database schemas, data flow diagrams, maintenance schedules, and configuration records.
- Supports reporting and analytics needs for Finance, Cage, Slots, Table Games, Racetrack, Compliance, Surveillance, Marketing, and operational departments.
- Assists during internal audits, external audits, regulatory inspections, technology reviews, and ICS compliance assessments.
- Ensures database changes follow proper change-management, testing, and validation protocols.
- Provides on-call support in a 24/7 gaming and racing environment and assists with major IT projects, integrations, and system installations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, experience, skills required, equipment used.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Five or more years of applicable experience in database administration or equivalent technical experience; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred, or a combination of education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or comparable database platforms.
- Experience working with gaming industry systems preferred (CMS, SMS, TITO, racetrack tote systems, cage/credit systems, POS, financial applications).
- Understanding gaming technology regulatory requirements, OCCC rules, PCI-DSS, data privacy, and internal control standards.
- Proficiency in backup/recovery strategies, performance tuning, indexing, high-availability solutions, and disaster-recovery planning.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced 24/7 environment, handle multiple priorities, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
