Northern Star Foundation is a faith-centered nonprofit serving youth and families through grief support and foster care mentorship programs. We create safe, consistent spaces where children and teens can find healing, belonging, and hope after loss and life challenges.

Through our Grief Support Program, youth ages 8–18 are given opportunities to process grief, build healthy coping skills, connect with peers, and discover that they do not have to walk through loss alone. Northern Star partners with families, volunteers, and community organizations to help youth move forward with confidence and support.

Role Description

This is a part-time, on-site internship opportunity located at Feeding Tampa Bay in Tampa, Florida.

As a Grief Program Support Intern, you will assist with the planning and delivery of youth grief support programming while helping create a welcoming and supportive environment for participants and families. Responsibilities may include preparing materials and activities, supporting session logistics, assisting with family check-in, maintaining program resources, helping with administrative tasks, and supporting special events and outreach efforts.

Interns will work alongside experienced program leaders and gain practical experience in youth development, grief-informed support, nonprofit operations, group facilitation, and community engagement.

This role is ideal for students seeking meaningful field experience, individuals exploring a career in helping professions, or retired professionals who want to invest in the next generation.

QualificationsRequired
  • Compassion for children, youth, and families.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Dependable, organized, and willing to learn.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Passion for serving others and creating welcoming environments.
Preferred
  • Currently pursuing or holding a degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Education, Child Development, Human Services, Ministry, or a related field.
  • Experience working with children, youth, families, schools, churches, camps, community organizations, or volunteer programs.
  • Experience is welcomed but not required. Training and support will be provided.

Schedule
  • Fall Semester: August–November
  • Approximately 4–8 hours per week
  • Tuesday evening program participation preferred
