What are the responsibilities and job description for the Yard Shipping Associate - CDL/Forklift Operator position at Northern Pipe Products?
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform and document daily equipment inspections.
- Safely load/unload trucks, verify and complete all paperwork to ensure 100% load accuracy.
- Ability to flex between CDL and Forklift operator
- Reconfigure loads as needed to ensure safe transport.
- Communicate multi-drops or special load requirements to drivers.
- Report damaged product promptly and tag for regrind or QA review.
- Identify and re-band bales as needed to ensure safety and prevent product damage
- Promptly advise Customer Account Representatives or the Traffic Manager on any potential QA issues or delays with shipments.
- Follow safe loading procedures and advise drivers on safety and strapping policies.
- Perform snow removal for yards, parking and sidewalk areas.
- Maintain yard cleanliness and pipe organization.
- Maintain excellent customer service and driver relations.
- Operate forklifts safely and handle products responsibly to prevent injuries.
- Identify and suggest operational improvements to the supervisor.
- Extended hours or mandatory overtime may be required during peak business periods or for snow removal.
- Yard personnel holding the ND Environmental Class A/B certification may certify other Yard personnel to Class C status.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma.
Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent, relevant driving experience.
Certifications:
- CDL license (required)
- Valid Driver’s License (required for operating yard trucks and other vehicles)
- Forklift certification preferred (may be issued by NPP)
- ND Environmental Certificate Class A or B may be required. Class C is required. (issued
by NPP)

- Strong understanding of safe transport, material handling and yard operations.
- Understanding of safety procedures and proper use of equipment.
- Ability to follow and issue clear instructions.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail in documentation, product positioning and safety compliance.
- Physical stamina to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
