Position Summary
Northern Ohio Recovery Association (NORA), a nonprofit organization committed to promoting
long-term recovery and wellness through peer-based support and evidence-based treatment
services, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Counselor. This role will be responsible for
responsible for providing direct counseling and case management services to adult clients. This
position facilitates group and individual sessions, conducts comprehensive assessments, and
develops individualized treatment plans to support recovery and improve client outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
● Facilitate group, individual, and family counseling sessions as assigned.
● Prepare and deliver educational lectures and psychoeducational groups focused on substance use,
relapse prevention, and recovery skills.
● Conduct comprehensive client assessments, including drug/alcohol evaluations, psychosocial
assessments, family histories, and cultural evaluations.
● Develop, implement, and update individualized treatment plans in accordance with agency policies
and regulatory standards.
● Provide ongoing case management for assigned clients, including referrals, coordination with
community resources, and liaison work with outside agencies.
● Maintain accurate, complete, and timely clinical documentation, including progress notes, reports,
and discharge summaries.
● Monitor client progress and adjust treatment approaches as needed to promote recovery.
● Supervise client activities and ensure adherence to program rules and expectations.
● Participate in team meetings, case reviews, and training sessions as required.
● Uphold NORA’s mission and values in all interactions with clients, colleagues, and the community.
● Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
● Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related counseling or behavioral health field.
● Demonstrated competence in the twelve core functions of chemical dependency counseling.
● Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
● Experience facilitating group counseling sessions.
● Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
● If in personal recovery, must have a minimum of two (2) years of sobriety.
● Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Preferred Skills
● LCDC, LSW, or LPC credential.
● Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and clinical documentation systems.
● Familiarity with trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and cognitive-behavioral therapy
techniques.
● Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
● Experience providing culturally competent services to diverse populations.
