What are the responsibilities and job description for the Counselor position at Northern Ohio Recovery Association?
The NORA a Counselor is responsible for the provision of all adult services.
Responsibilities include facilitating groups and presenting lectures, in addition they will complete comprehensive assessments, develop treatment plans and updates. They will be responsible for maintaining accurate and timely records on clients including progress notes, progress reports and termination summaries.
Key Responsibilities:
-Conduct client assessments, diagnose disorders (mental health or substance use), and develop individualized, client-centered treatment plans with measurable goals and strategies.
-Facilitate individual, group, and family counseling sessions based on the treatment plan and evidence-based practices.
-Address and de-escalate crisis situations, assessing risks of harm, and arranging needed resources.
-Provide ongoing oversight of a client's caseload, coordinating with referral sources, support services (like housing or vocational), and family members to support recovery.
-Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records (EHRs), progress notes, treatment plan updates, and discharge plans.
-Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, nurses, and case managers, to ensure coordinated and effective care.
-Make appropriate referrals to other programs or providers and develop continuing care and discharge plans to ensure clients transition to the correct level of care or support services.
Key qualifications and skills
- A master's degree in a relevant field, such as counseling, psychology, or social work.
- State licensure or certification.
- Experience working in a clinical or counseling setting.
- Knowledge of various therapeutic modalities and techniques.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $62,000.00 per year
