Experienced Commercial Marine Technician

We are seeking an Experienced Commercial Marine Technicians to join our family-owned company located in the Chicagoland area. As a Marine Technician you will assist the Senior Marine Engineer in maintaining and repairing the vessel’s propulsion systems, machinery, and equipment.

Northern Marine is part of the full-service commercial maritime model the Egan family of companies has developed and fostered over 3 generations along the Illinois River.

Key Responsibilities:

· Assist in the inspection, routine maintenance, maintenance and repair planning, and troubleshooting of main propulsion machinery, auxiliary machinery, and various vessel systems.

· Diagnose engine performance issues

· Repair gasoline and diesel marine engines

· Troubleshoot electrical systems

· Service steering and control systems

· Maintain onboard HVAC and refrigeration components

· Repair plumbing and water systems

· Inspect generators and battery systems

· Perform preventive maintenance

· Implement and adhere to preventative maintenance programs for heavy equipment, scheduling routine checks, lubrication, and replacements to prevent breakdowns and extend the lifespan of the machinery.

· Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, parts, replacements, and equipment testing, contributing to the development of a comprehensive maintenance history for shipyard heavy equipment.

· Work in multiple environments from an indoor facility to outside spaces with exposure to all elements.

· Replace components such as bearings, gaskets, seals, and gears.

· Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently.

· Ensure compliance with safety regulations and proper maintenance standards.

· Record all maintenance activities and repairs in logs.

· Comply with all safety regulations and maintain a clean and orderly work area.

· Collaborate with other team members to troubleshoot complex issues.

Qualifications:

· High school education with at least 3 years of related experience.

· Basic math, reading, and writing skills.

· Ability to follow safety regulations and use mechanical tools properly.

· Knowledge of job-specific software and basic computer skills.

· Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems of heavy equipment.

· Knowledge of heavy equipment safety protocols, load capacities, and operational guidelines.

· Be trustworthy, dependable and confident, have a positive attitude, have good judgement and be a role model for others.

· Be able to work in a team environment.

· Be able to read/understand blueprints and/or drawings.

· Be conscientious in their work (attention to detail).

· Be able to communicate in English.

· The ability to speak Spanish, while not required, would be beneficial.

· Be able to effectively manage his/her time and prioritize work as requires.

· Be able to work overtime as required.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to stand, walk, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds.

· Exposure to mechanical parts, vibrations, and extreme temperatures.

Schedule: Monday – Friday 0700-1530; Occasional Saturday work will be required

Overtime Pay when applicable
