What are the responsibilities and job description for the MIG Welder – Stainless & Carbon Steel position at Northern Manufacturing?
1st & 3rd Shift Opportunities Available
Pay: $21–$26/hour
Starting rate based on demonstrated welding skills and experience.
If you’re a solid MIG welder and want the opportunity to keep building your skills, there’s a place for you at Northern. We weld both stainless and carbon steel on custom products and assemblies, and you don’t need to come in as an experienced fabricator. If you can produce consistent, quality welds, we can help you build your skills in print reading, fit-up, layout, and fabrication from there. Because we build custom products, the work changes. You’ll get exposure to different parts, assemblies, materials, and jobs — and the opportunity to take on more as your skills grow.
What You'll Do
- MIG (GMAW) weld stainless and carbon steel components and assemblies.
- Work from prints and weld symbols to complete required welds.
- Produce consistent, quality welds while maintaining a productive pace.
- Inspect your own work and make adjustments as needed.
- Work with fabricators, leads, and Quality to complete custom jobs.
- Continue developing your welding and fabrication skills.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for welders with hands-on MIG welding experience who take pride in producing quality work.
Experience that will help you succeed includes:
- MIG/GMAW welding experience
- Experience welding stainless and/or carbon steel
- Ability to produce consistent, quality welds
- Basic blueprint and weld-symbol reading
- Welding school, trade-school, or hands-on manufacturing experience
Fabrication experience is helpful, but not required. If you can weld but haven't had much opportunity to do your own layout, fit-up, or fabrication, that's okay. We can help you develop those skills.
There's Room to Grow
At Northern, being a good welder doesn't have to be where your development stops. As you build your skills in print reading, layout, fit-up, and fabrication, you'll have opportunities to take on more complex work and progress toward independent fabricator and advanced fabrication roles.
Our welding pay structure rewards demonstrated skill and capability, with additional premium-pay opportunities available for specialized welding qualifications.
Schedule
Opportunities may be available on:
- 1st Shift: Monday–Friday, 6:00am to 3:30pm (45-hours)
- 3rd Shift: Four 10-hour shifts, Monday–Thursday, 7:30pm to 6:00am
Third-shift positions include a shift premium.
Benefits
Northern offers a competitive benefits package, including:
- Medical, dental, vision, life, and short-term disability insurance after 90 days
- Paid time off and paid holidays
- 401(k) with company match after 90 days
- Annual profit-sharing contribution to your 401(k)
- Quarterly bonus opportunities
- In-house welding training and development
