Job Title: Human Resources Generalist

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm

Work Model: This is a hybrid position, requiring in person work 2-3 times per week at the main office in Manhattan.

Summary Of Responsibilities

Reporting to the HR Director, the HR Generalist plays a pivotal role in the administration of NMIC's Human Resources Department. This position is multifaceted and encompasses responsibilities across various HR functions, recruiting, onboarding and orientation, employee engagement, employee relations, and offboarding. It demands a perceptive individual capable of building rapport with individuals at all organizational levels while upholding strict confidentiality standards.

As a hybrid role, this position requires a physical presence at our main office in Manhattan.

  • Support the department in implementing strategic Human Resources programs, including training and development initiatives, research projects, wellness initiatives, and involvement in safety and employee-related committees.
  • Assist the HR Director in the administration of the performance review system, including proactively working with supervisors and directors on employee issues, documentation, PIPs, addressing performance concerns.
  • Regularly check in with supervisors and directors to ensure performance reviews are done on time and to encourage check-in meetings.
  • Oversee and expand use of Performance Pro employee evaluation software, adding check-in meetings, updating competencies related to job duties and running reports and analyzing reporting data.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives, including developing and implementing staff recognition and support strategies.
  • Help to develop internal staff training and identify relevant available external training.
  • Oversee recruiting including posting jobs, monitoring searches, managing the employee referral program, and training staff on the ATS. Monitor and run reports on data related to improving recruiting to give feedback to supervisors and senior staff.
  • Handle all administrative responsibilities for onboarding and offboarding, including the facilitation of new-hire orientations and exit procedures.
  • Provide backup support for payroll and benefits administration during periods of absence or high volume, including review of timesheets, in coordination with the HR & Payroll Administrator.
  • Support preparation for internal and external audits by organizing and providing HR-related documentation, in coordination with the HR team and external partners.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Oversee wellness program and initiatives, including coordinating with vendors, planning and executing wellness activities. Regularly educate staff on the Employee Assistance program, schedule trainings for staff, share counseling resources.
  • Help plan and organize all staff meetings and other staff events (picnic, holiday party, employee appreciation events).
  • Manage the onboarding and compliance/administration of interns and volunteers, coordinating with various resources for interns and volunteers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (SHRM certification preferred)
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Demonstrated initiative and a track record of professional growth in the field of Human Resources.
  • Proficiency in working effectively under pressure and the ability to operate independently with sound judgment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a task-oriented approach. Must have the ability to establish priorities, manage multiple issues in a time-sensitive manner, and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with HR systems and databases (experience with ADP is advantageous), and competency in Microsoft Office applications (familiarity with Office 365 basic administration is a plus).
  • Proficiency in exercising a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, discretion, firmness, and collaboration when interacting with individuals at all levels.
  • Capacity to quickly acquire knowledge of policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Understanding of HR best practices and current regulations; knowledge of employment and labor laws.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations ordinances, and policies.

SALARY: $75,000 to $85,000 annually

BENEFITS: NMIC offers a generous benefits package including medical, dental, life, and disability insurance; paid time off consisting of 20 vacation days, 15 sick days, 5 personal days, 11 agency holidays, plus the week off from Christmas Eve through New Year's Day; a 401k with agency contribution; and other benefits.
