What are the responsibilities and job description for the Forest Hill - Staff RN position at Northern Maine Medical Center?
The Staff Nurse is a professional position. The person will be responsible for the overall Nursing and Skilled Care unit operations which include assessing, implementing and evaluating the care given to all residents of these assigned units.
It is the responsibility of this position to ensure that staff provide the necessary care and services to attain and maintain the highest practical physical, psychological, social, and spiritual well-being of the residents in accordance with their Comprehensive Assessments and Individualized Care Plans and stay in compliance with the current standards of the State and Federal regulations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Attend and give morning report to stay current and updated on any changes from day to day, shift to shift
- Complete all skilled assessments as soon as possible in the AM, and check on patients who have a change in condition and need
- Verify staffing assignments and make appropriate adjustments to group lists if there is a call out or no-show.
- Make sure breakfast trays are distributed in a timely fashion and that all residents needing assistance have been fed, and assist as
- Complete all skin checks on residents when admitted, scheduled for a whirlpool or total bed bath, and document.
- Complete and document all pain assessments scheduled for that
- Complete all charting/documentation of issues reported and investigated during the shift, as well as any changes noted in residents' behaviors, changes in condition, PRN medications given and their effectiveness, Please be very specific on all behaviors!
- Complete all psychotropic assessments scheduled for that
- Access electronic Care Plan to be aware of residents individualized Make sure CNAs are doing the same if they have questions about residents' AOL's & need for assistance.
- Make sure CNAs are documenting appropriately for B&B, as well as AOL's.
- Supervise CNA staff and make sure their duties/tasks are completed and that their residents are well groomed and safe.
- Verify expirations dates on all medications and supplies (Usually done by night staff nurse, but some supplies should be done by day shift nurse when possible).
- Do a walk-through of all resident rooms in the AM and PM to make sure that rooms are clutter free, garbage cans are emptied and the residents are safe.

- Complete transfer forms and making sure admission paperwork gets completed within 24 hours of admission.
- Work closely with and report all problematic areas (workflow, staffing, resident care issues) to the Charge Nurse
- At times, assist the Charge Nurse in contacting the residents' family/guardian as needed to relate the resident's status if changes. (especially on the weekends)
- Do supper blood sugars, insulin coverage, scheduled or PRN nebulizer treatments and any other treatment not completed by Treatment Nurse during her shift.
