FULL JOB DESCRIPTION: This job is responsible for assisting the High School CTE Manager with the High School CTE Welding Program and with related mechanical, carpentry and electrical courses offered at NIT. This job requires a broad knowledge of welding applications and requires strong communication, educational and teamwork skills.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs
· Must be able to pass a state and federal background check
· Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test before hire
· Valid driver’s license
· Must be able to travel
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- 1-2 years’ experience working as a welding professional (Preferred)
- Broad knowledge of welding applications, procedures, specifications, industry codes, standards, and applied metallurgy
- Strong computer skills
- Strong professional verbal and written communication skills
- Enthusiastic, student focused, patient, and willing to explore a variety of learning styles
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to be flexible while retaining a positive attitude
- Ability to work with a team and independently
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and provide all lectures, and practical training according to the required level of welding curriculum
- Competently and engagingly teach the curriculum to students
o Percentage of positive student evaluations, implementation of new interactive teaching methods/tools, attendance marks
· Monitor student attendance and progress
· Assist in the choosing and implementation of new curriculum as needed
· Make the classroom environment safe and comfortable place to learn by patiently demonstrating safe applications, giving students the time and space to make errors and work through challenges
o Safety audits quarterly, safety demonstration imbued in each practical, performance evaluations of students to quantify percentage of safe handling
· Exercise the freedom to alter, augment or replace the foundational teaching tools with what works best for your own and your students’ teaching & learning styles
o Quarterly review of teaching materials, two new resources per term
· Contribute positively to tasks in which the whole team is involved (i.e. for the shop, help keep clean & organized, be able to assist in teaching in the event of an absence, etc.)
o Weekly team meetings, scheduled shop cleaning time
· Maintain an organized overview of class expectations, broken down by student & task. An instructor should either know or be able to reference a note they made to ascertain what the next individuated steps required are for any given student on any given day
o ILPs for each student, updated biweekly, tracking progress each class
· Advise students as it relates to school policies, satisfactory performance, etc.
· Maintain communication with High School CTE Manager regarding all program activity, program development
· Communicate with High School CTE Manager on all issues related to students
· Attend all scheduled mandatory staff and instructor meetings
· Assist in instruction with MSBSD After-School program
· Perform other duties as assigned

Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
