Maintenance Supervisor

Position Summary
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all maintenance activities within a manufacturing facility specializing in sheet metal fabrication and welding operations. This role ensures maximum equipment uptime, safe working conditions, and efficient maintenance operations while supervising maintenance technicians and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
The position requires strong leadership skills combined with hands-on technical expertise in industrial machinery, welding systems, and fabrication equipment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise, schedule, and direct daily activities of maintenance technicians and mechanics.
- Assign preventive and corrective maintenance tasks based on production priorities.
- Provide coaching, training, and performance evaluations.
- Maintain staffing schedules, including overtime and shift coverage as needed.
- Promote teamwork and accountability within the maintenance department.
2. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
- Develop, implement, and monitor preventive maintenance (PM) programs.
- Ensure timely response to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime.
- Maintain detailed maintenance records using CMMS systems.
- Analyze recurring equipment failures and implement long-term corrective actions.
3. Equipment & Technical Oversight
Oversee maintenance and repair of:
- Sheet metal fabrication equipment (press brakes, shears, CNC punch presses, laser cutters)
- Welding equipment (MIG, TIG, robotic welding systems)
- Mechanical systems (motors, gearboxes, conveyors, bearings)
- Electrical systems (PLC controls, sensors, drives)
- Hydraulics and pneumatics systems
- Facility systems (HVAC, compressed air, building infrastructure)
Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues as needed.
4. Safety & Compliance
- Enforce OSHA and company safety standards.
- Ensure compliance with lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Conduct safety audits and toolbox talks.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
5. Budgeting & Inventory Control
- Manage maintenance department budget.
- Monitor parts inventory and order supplies as needed.
- Negotiate with vendors and contractors.
- Control maintenance costs while maintaining operational reliability.
6. Continuous Improvement
- Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Track KPIs such as downtime, MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), and maintenance costs.
- Identify process improvements to increase equipment efficiency and reliability.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams on equipment upgrades.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate’s Degree or Technical Certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Technology, or related field preferred.
Experience
- 5–10 years of industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing.
- 2 years of supervisory or lead experience preferred.
- Experience in sheet metal fabrication and welding environments strongly preferred.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with CMMS software.
- Ability to read blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
