What are the responsibilities and job description for the Remote NOMSO Coder - PRN position at NORTHEASTERN HEALTH SYSTEM?
Position Summary
Assigns codes for diagnosis and medical procedures using the 10th revision of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-10) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT).
Position Accountabilities
Assign codes for diagnoses, treatments, and procedures according to the ICD-10-CM/PCS Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting through review of coding critical documentation to generate appropriate MS-DRG. Extracts and abstracts required information from source documentation, to be entered into appropriate Partner electronic medical record system.Expertly queries providers for missing or unclear documentation, by working with Providers and Referring Physicians.Validates orders and discharge dispositions.Assists in implementing solutions to reduce backend-errors.Works from assigned coding queue/worklist, completing accounts accordingly.Manages accounts on hold, finalizing accounts when corrections have been made, in a timely manner.Meets or exceeds an accuracy rate of 95%. Meets or exceeds the designated productivity standard of 4 surgery or 25 ancillary charts per hour.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Able to work independently in a remote setting, with little supervision.Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Participates in both internal and external audit discussions. All other work duties as assigned by NOMSO Leadership.
Minimum Education- High school diploma or GED and CCA (Certified Coding Associate) or (Certified Coding Specialist)
credential.
Minimum Experience - 5-10 years progressive coding or coding review experience in a clinic or acute care environment
using ICD-10-CM/PCS.
Preferred Credentials - Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information and Informatics Management, RHIA (Registered Health
Information Administration) or Associates Degree in Health Information and Informatics Management along with coding
credential.
