General Duties
Under the direct supervision of the Revenue Cycle Supervisor, the Financial Counselor will collect, review and enter data from patients seeking care within the NEON network, with professionalism and confidentiality. The Financial Counselor will assist all qualified, self-pay patients with the goal of managing and reducing associated account receivables. The foremost duty and responsibility of a Financial Counselor is to act as a navigator to patients applying for NEON's discounted medical care program and assisting with application for available insurance programs, i.e. private insurances, Medicare, Medicaid, HMO, etc. They will be required to counsel and advise patients of their financial help eligibility, and the cost that is required for each visit. This information must be accurately input into NEON's practice management system and updated accordingly. Generating statements and re-billing claims. Other duties of a similar nature will be required that are essential to the delivery of high quality comprehensive family health care. The duties listed below are for the purpose of illustration and without limitation to the discretion of NorthEast Ohio Neighborhood Health Services, Inc. (NEON) to modify, add to, or delete said duties from time to time. The Financial Cournselor may be required to provide coverage at other sites.
Education
- High School Graduate or GED
- One year college education
Minimum Qualifications
- 3 years of experience working in a medical office with direct patient contact.
- Some Insurance/Billing knowledge required .
- Working knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid programs.
- Ability to speak clearly and distinctly with proper grammar.
- Ability to demonstrate maturity, flexibility and to make sound judgment independently.
- Must be organized and work well in a fast paced environment.
Technical Skills
- Use and/or operate office equipment, i.e., personal computers, calculators, copier, fax machine.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Proficient in utilizing the current Practice Management system.
