What You’ll Do:
- Provide peer-to-peer support, education, and training to families receiving behavioral health services.
- Help families build confidence, access resources, and develop skills for independence.
- Collaborate with service providers and community partners to ensure families receive the support they need.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Parent Support Partner is sensitive, respectful and responsive to the values, cultural background and life experiences of each family. Engages family members and provides peer-to-peer support, education and training to families who are receiving behavioral health services. Parent Support Partners help empower families to access and obtain resources in the community, partner with service providers, increase their confidence in parenting, and move toward independence through skill-building interventions. Will demonstrate the ability to build trust with beneficiaries in order to help families achieve their goals and work towards recovery and independence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School education or GED preferred.
Experience: Lived experiences with mental illness, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders are valued.
Other: A parent or day-to-day caregiver who has or has had a child with emotional, behavioral, and/or mental health challenges and or intellectual/developmental disabilities. General knowledge of the public mental health system, special education system, juvenile justice system, child welfare, and other community resources. Experience navigating at least one agency servicing children, preferably a public mental health agency. Able to relate to, socially interact, communicate with, and engage others. Able to partner with families, youth, professionals, and other community members in order to plan and implement services. Able to integrate own experience when it is helpful to the family.
Functional computer literacy required. Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s license and a satisfactory driving as determined by the agency. Why Join Us?

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Coach families to navigate various systems by building families’ skills, providing information and teaching families how to access and obtain community resources.
- Provide skilled interventions as part of the treatment plan.
- Support families to identify and learn techniques and strategies for use by parents and caregivers.
- Support links between families and community partners.
- Complete and maintain accurate, timely, required documentation.
- Participation in consultation and treatment plan coordination with child and family team member(s) (i.e. Wraparound coordinator, home-based therapist, case manager, etc.) on a regular basis.
- Support family strengths in problem-solving and solution seeking.
- Ability to seek supervision when families are in crisis for guidance and direction, and to work as a team.
- Ability to maintain clear and professional boundaries.
- May be required to collaborate with the agency Advisory Council.
- Demonstrate knowledge of universal precautions, standards of practice, and emergency protocol.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs other related duties as required.
- May be requested to be involved in the Board’s continuous quality improvement program.
- May be required to provide own transportation while performing agency-related duties and must possess a valid driver’s license.

Ability to walk, bend, stand, sit, lift up to 25 pounds, with or without assistance, stretch/reach, hear, see, hand/finger dexterity, and drive.
