Custodian

POSITION SUMMARY

The Head Start Custodian is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary environment within the Head Start classroom and offices. This position performs routine cleaning and custodial duties to support daily operations and ensure facilities are well maintained for staff, children, and visitors.

 The Head Start Custodian is expected to uphold NEICAC’s core values of Growth, Adaptability, Respect, Responsiveness, Compassion, and Collaboration while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and effective working relationships with staff and management.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

AGENCY RELATED

• Must maintain confidentiality at all times
• Must always represent NEICAC in a positive and professional manner
• Must attend training as requested to demonstrate a continued effort to grow professionally
• Adhere to all policies as an employee of Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation
• Attend all agency-wide trainings
• Must travel to and from work and, occasionally when requested, during the work day
• Establish a collaborative and communicative relationship with co-workers
• Must be punctual and dependable in completing assignments.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC

• Perform general, routine custodial duties to include mopping, sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper & hygiene supplies
• Wipe down windows and mirrors
• Empty trash receptacles & properly dispose of trash: replace liners
• Report any safety, sanitary, or fire hazards to the appropriate program staff
• Ensure proper use and care of cleaning equipment and supplies
• Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned program/work area
• May assist or perform snow removal activities and minor maintenance (such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting furniture, or other similar activities)
• Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors & closing windows
