Northeast Digestive Health Center is seeking a Billing Support Specialist who will serve as a key liaison between patients and the billing departments for Northeast Digestive Health Center and Salisbury Endoscopy Center. This role requires a solid understanding of the full revenue cycle, including insurance verification, claims processing, payments, and denials management. The Specialist will provide clear, compassionate explanations to patients regarding their bills, insurance coverage, and out-of-pocket responsibilities, while supporting the internal billing team with claim follow-up and resolution. This position is full-time, Monday through Friday, in a privately owned gastroenterologist practice in Concord, NC
The schedule for this position is:
Monday - Thursday, 8am-5pm
Friday 8am- 2pm

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide front-line support to patients with billing questions, insurance inquiries, and account resolution.
- Review and explain statements, balances, insurance payments, and claim status in a patient-friendly manner.
- Collaborate with billing staff to research claim denials, adjustments, and payment discrepancies.
- Assist patients with setting up payment plans, when applicable.
- Educate patients on their insurance benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and prior authorization requirements.
- Escalate complex billing issues to leadership while maintaining ownership of follow-up.
- Document all patient interactions accurately in the billing/EMR system.
- Support the revenue cycle team with projects related to claims processing, A/R follow-up, and payer correspondence.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, billing regulations, and organizational policies.
- Champion our Klara workflows to interact with patients in a timely and productive manner regarding their billing and payment questions.
Education, Prior Work Experience, Special Skill and Knowledge Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 2 years of experience in medical billing, revenue cycle, or healthcare customer service.
- Strong knowledge of insurance claims processing, EOBs, denials, and patient billing statements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex billing information.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive patient concerns with empathy and professionalism.
- Proficiency with gMed, EPIC, & other billing software preferred.
