DIRECTOR OF TEACHING & LEARNING One (1) Full-Time Year-round Vacancy: 40 hours per week Salary: $119,000 - $129,000 based on experience Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Start date: September 1, 2026 •The Director of Teaching and Learning serves as the district's chief instructional leader under the direction of the Superintendent. The Director provides strategic leadership for teaching, learning, assessment, curriculum, professional learning, instructional coaching, educator effectiveness, federal entitlement grants, and continuous school improvement. •Working collaboratively with school leaders, educators, and district departments, the Director develops coherent instructional systems that drive academic achievement and ensure equitable learning opportunities for every scholar. As the Superintendent’s primary partner and designee on instructional matters, this role leads the district's educational vision, supports principals, and ensures consistency, coherence, and continuous improvement across all schools. •Serves as the Superintendent's designee on instructional matters and collaborates closely with principals to ensure consistency, coherence, and continuous improvement across all schools. Essential Responsibilities: Leadership: •Serves as the Superintendent's chief instructional advisor. •Provides instructional leadership aligned with the district's strategic plan. •Supports principals in instructional leadership, supervision, and school improvement. •Collaborates with district leaders to ensure coherent PreK-12 systems. •Leads district instructional initiatives from planning through implementation. Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment •Leads the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of district curriculum aligned to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. •Oversees district assessment systems, including MCAS analysis, local assessments, and data cycles. •Uses multiple sources of data to evaluate instructional effectiveness and scholar outcomes. •Leads district curriculum review cycles, including the selection, implementation, and evaluation of high-quality instructional materials aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. •Supports evidence-based instructional practices that promote high expectations, belonging, and equitable outcomes for all scholars. •Ensures curriculum and instructional practices promote equitable outcomes for all scholars. Professional Learning •Designs and oversees district professional learning aligned with strategic priorities. •Coordinates instructional coaching and leadership development. •Supports induction and mentoring programs for new educators and administrators. School Improvement •Partners with principals and School Councils in the development, implementation, and monitoring of School Improvement Plans. •Supports principals in analyzing achievement, attendance, behavior, and other scholar outcome data. •Partners with the Director of Student Services and school leaders to develop, implement, and continuously improve a districtwide Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) that strengthens core instruction, early intervention, and equitable scholar outcomes. •Facilitates districtwide continuous improvement efforts. •Assists schools in implementing research-based instructional practices. Federal Programs & Grants •Oversees Title I, Title IIA, Title IV Entitlement Grants, and other applicable grants. •Ensures compliance with all federal and state grant requirements. •Coordinates grant planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring, and reporting. •Collaborates with district leaders to maximize grant resources in support of scholar achievement. Compliance •Maintains compliance with applicable state and federal instructional regulations. •Keeps the district informed regarding changes in educational law, regulations, accountability requirements, and best practices. •Supports educator licensure requirements and evaluation systems. •Coordinates district instructional reporting as required by DESE. Collaboration •Serves as a member of the Superintendent's Cabinet. •Collaborates with Student Services, Finance, Technology, and Human Resources to support district priorities. •Represents the district on regional and state committees as assigned. •Presents instructional reports and recommendations to the School Committee. •Performs other duties assigned by the Superintendent. Education & Experience •Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Administration, or closely related field. •Massachusetts licensure as a Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent, Principal/Assistant Principal, or equivalent administrator licensure. •Minimum three years successful building principal experience. •Demonstrated experience leading curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning. •Experience leading organizational change and continuous improvement initiatives. •Experience in writing and managing federal entitlement grants preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities •Deep knowledge of effective instructional practices and the science of learning. •Knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and accountability systems. •Strong understanding of MTSS, inclusive instructional practices, and educational equity. •Knowledge of educator evaluation and instructional supervision. •Experience analyzing multiple forms of scholar achievement data. •Experience facilitating professional learning for adults. •Strong systems thinking and organizational leadership. •Excellent communication and presentation skills. •Ability to build trusting relationships with diverse stakeholders. •Ability to partner with school leaders toward improved instructional practice. •Ability to lead strategic initiatives while managing day-to-day operational responsibilities. •Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
